Emergent Risk International (ERI) is seeking to hire a full-time Intelligence Analyst in South Africa. The analyst will be a part of the ERI in-house intelligence team. The Analyst will have experience working in threat monitoring for public or private sector entities or have recent educational, internship, military, or law enforcement experience.

We support global security, risk management, business continuity and other risk-focused departments of Fortune 500 companies and multi-national organizations.

We help our clients assess risk to their organizations; whether that risk emanates from geopolitics, security threats, economic forces or regulatory initiatives that may impact bottom-line revenue or threaten personnel and company assets.


ERI operates five lines of business:

  • Assessment and Analysis: We provide our clients daily, subscription-based, and bespoke geopolitical and threat intelligence services.
  • Training: We train intelligence analysts to serve effectively in corporate environments. Our training focuses on tradecraft and tools that drive more efficient and effective analysis. We offer a range of inhouse and open trainings to address specific levels of experience and need.
  • Online Platform: We offer a subscriptionbased online portal that provides a workspace environment for security intelligence analysts, combining ERI's expert analysis with hundreds of curated datasets and our suite of data visualization tools.
  • Embedded Analyst Services: We support our clients with embedded analysts, full
- and part-time, short

Primary responsibilities

  • Conduct research and provide analysis on geopolitical and private sector business resilience, political, supply chain, ESG and security related risk
  • Carry out social media monitoring and due diligence research
  • Develop and maintain keen awareness of relevant global issues impacting ERI's primary client base
  • Develop and expand your knowledge of business and how business works in order to provide the most relevant and value driven analysis for each unique client
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts in the private sector, government and other relevant sectors
  • Build content and analysis for the Emergent Risk Situation Room including keeping country reports up to date, creating engaging and dynamic data visualizations, updating regional calendars and other resources
  • Assist with trainings, ERI sponsored events and other ERI initiatives as appropriate.
  • Serve as ERI's liaison to South Africa's community of risk professionals and the African region more broadly by joining regional risk intelligence organizations, attending their events, expanding contacts, and seeking out opportunities to learn more about the region and the businesses of our clients in the area.
  • Benchmark with other analysts in Africa to improve understanding of the profession and to assess how companies in Africa are responding to security and risk events and their approaches.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with a global threat monitoring team, executive protection, think tanks, international NGOs, a newsroom or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Superior English language writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Superior research/OSINT skills
  • Quick thinking and response time during crisis events
  • Professional demeanor / Positive attitude
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and prioritize accordingly
  • A strong commitment to ethical privatesector intelligence practices
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality around securityspecific information
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Must be able to pass a preemployment background screening and locally compliant reference checks
  • As this position will be remote, you must have reliable internet access and telecoms and a suitable workspace at your home
