Role purpose:


To define and deliver on the Vodacom SA digital and analytics strategic roadmap and technical capabilities in the digital channels, robotics, contact centers, CVM, and Analytics domains, leading the technical teams across all disciplines, aligned with the Tech2025 Group strategy, including the relevant cloud transformation programs.


Your responsibilities will include:

Financial management
Budget planning, budget rollout execution, supplier management, contract compilation & monitoring.

Definition and implementation of ongoing cost efficiency (Smart IT) programs, to ensure that the overall run costs in the environment are reduce year on year.

Ensure robust business cases and forecasts in Digital Channels, CVM, Big Data, Contact Centres, Robotics, cloud transformations and other Capital Expenditures.


Leadership & HR management

Define strategy aligned goals, lead the digital technology transformation within the Group, and the adoption of DevSecOps delivery practises, ensuring an engaged, purpose driven and motivated team.

Ensure that there is a detailed upskilling and training plan, to ensure that all team members have the skills to perform their roles optimally.

Build effective and constructive relationships with all of the key business stakeholders and leaders.


Ensure delivery of all defined business outcomes, uncompromised delivery on all deliverables agreed in the Product Increment (PI), delivery of robust and performant technical solutions.

Ensuring robust technical operation of all implemented solutions and systems (on-premises and cloud). Identify key operational automation opportunities, and the define the journey to AI driven operations. Ensure that the digital enablement and analytics domain and all its components, are "future proof" and "always on". Ensure a robust and scalable technical environment, fully aligned with the cyber security baseline and super controls. Define and execute the cloud transformation strategy and address all obsolescence proactively.

Strategy formulation & execution

Define a documented 5-year technical digital strategy for the Digital Enablement and Analytics systems environment, ensure alignment with key business outcomes, ensure all technical designs are tightly aligned with the Tech2025 strategy and defined golden rules.

Further to the digital technical strategy, a clear strategy around people and governance processes to be defined to ensure alignment with Tech2025 and build a fit for the future organisation.


Governance & compliance

Ensure that technical solutions are compliant to all documented Vodacom policies, with a specific focus on Cyber Security and business continuity, on a day-to-day basis.

Ensure that Group operates in accordance with the adopted Vodacom standards (e.g., AGILE, ISO).

Must have technical/professional qualifications:

Degree / Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering (or similar tertiary qualification)

years of management experience, in a large-scale technical delivery domain, preferably in software development in digital eco-systems (channels, robotics) and analytical environments (cloud analytics, Big Data, Enterprise Data Warehousing).

Experience in Digital technical architecture, operation, and delivery.
Detailed knowledge of digital eco-systems, analytics, robotics, and design methodologies.

Detailed knowledge of cloud-based platform engineering and design architectures and toolsets, across the full scope of the digital and analytical eco-systems.

Proven record of leading large-scale operational teams, across various IT disciplines.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

People leadership and management of large teams, working in accordance with DevSecOps practices, aligned with robust Vodacom operational methodologies.

Management of large-scale complex Technical Transformations, from on-premise to public cloud-based technologies, digital enablement and analytical systems modernisation and full alignment to the Vodacom cyber security baseline and super controls.

Knowledge and proven implementation of Digital Transformation delivery, including management of analytical, CVM, Digital Channel, contact centre and robotics environments.

Experience in establishing and maintaining a digital software engineering factory.

Agile delivery methodologies implementation and rollout, with a working understanding of how to transform a Teams way of working and culture in line with Agile delivery.

Management of Technical Operations, in a large-scale on-premises and cloud-based data and analytics technical environment. This includes alignment of operations to DevSecOps principles and AI-Driven operations.
