  • Job Purpose
  • To ensure that laboratories / work areas are prepared and wellkept for undergraduate and ECP practicals and projects and that all apparatus, instruments and equipment are available in good working order.
  • Assist lecturers and students during their experimental duties.
  • Ensure that all testing and analytical materials are according to the set standards as dictated by technical, professional or regulatory bodies.
  • Facilitate the interpretation of data achieved from experimental analyses.
  • Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Matric plus 3 year qualification in Chemistry
  • At least 3 year's appropriate technical laboratory experience involving Chemistry experiments and Analytical Chemistry instrumentation

RECOMMENDED

  • BTech Analytical Chemistry or Advanced Diploma in Analytical chemistry will be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the use of Analytical Chemistry techniques and equipment and interpretation of data will be beneficial.
  • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Preparation of apparatus and equipment for Undergraduate and ECP projects and practicals
  • Ensure that Laboratory assistants have the required knowledge and skills to perform the work correctly and effectively.
  • Take responsibility for stock requirements and the ordering of maintenance components, reagents or other laboratory items.
  • Be competent to repair apparatus or arrange for repairs by maintenance; or requisition quotations and place orders; plan maintenance and servicing of equipment.
  • Assist students and lecturers in experimental matters, perform investigations and attend to problem areas.
  • Provide advice and technical assistance during practicals and projects
  • Administer control over lab equipment, budgeting for the laboratory and keeping records of the equipment and reagents
  • Ensure that health and safety standards are upheld in the laboratory, with equipment safe and in good working order, and that hazardous conditions are reported immediately.
