Background

Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves, and researches contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora; conceives and hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational, discursive and enriching programmes; encourages intercultural understanding; and strives for access for all.

The museum's galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with a dedicated space for the permanent collection.

The institution also includes the Centre for Art Education, the Centre for the Moving Image, and a Project Space for emerging artists.

It opened to the public in September 2017.

Job Summary

The Project Manager reports on day-to-day work responsibilities directly to the Education Specialist and is overseen by the Head of Education.

This role requires coordinating the design, building process, planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling all aspects of the project to achieve the project goals and objective to the launch of the Mobile Museum.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients.

Project Planning and Management

  • Develop and define a comprehensive project goal, scope, plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation in collaboration with key stakeholders
  • Create a detailed timeline and schedule for the Mobile Museum project
  • Facilitate communication between designers/architects and museum departments
  • Conduct weekly discussion, consultation and reporting to the Education Specialist and the Head of CFAE
  • Carry out Community consultations with support from the CFAE
  • Organise and plan the launch of the Mobile Museum
  • Managing the project from initiation to completion
Project Execution

  • Manage, oversee, and assign tasks and responsibilities to project team members
  • Monitor, track, and feedback on progress
  • Conduct regular project status meetings and provide timely updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive project execution
  • Ensure adherence to project management methodologies and best practices
  • Identify resource requirements and secure necessary resources for project execution
  • Allocate resources effectively to maximize productivity and achieve project goals
  • Monitor resource utilization and adjust as needed to maintain project efficiency
Risk Management

  • Identify potential risks and issues that may impact project success
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans
  • Proactively address issues and conflicts that arise during the project lifecycle
  • Escalate critical issues to higher management when necessary
  • Develop and implement quality standards and processes for project deliverables
  • Conduct quality reviews and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Perform thorough project documentation and maintain project files and record
General Administration and Budget

  • Develop a detailed budget based on the overall budget
  • Create timeline and project schedules with required resources
  • Liaison with architects, designers, and suppliers, compiling contracts and service level agreements
  • Control, monitor, track the budget and provide regular feedback on this
  • Provide project progress reporting written and verbal to the Head of CFAE and Key senior staff
  • Lead and manage the people resources and their performance

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., project management, business administration)
  • Minimum of 3year experience in project management
  • Community engagement
  • Selfinitiative and drive
  • Understanding of an education environment is a strong recommendation
  • Experience working within a cultural or creative arts context is required
  • Demonstrable understanding of Community contexts and engagement is requirement
  • Strong administration and coordination skills
