To lead the Long Life Confectionery team in achieving long term sustainable profit growth through the delivery of the Category and Food Strategies.

Job description:

  • Lead, coordinate, and assimilate input into the development and execution of the category operating plan
  • To deliver the category commercial KPI's and support the cross functional matrix team in delivering the KPI's across all other functions
  • Develop and execute class leading price, promotion, and product strategy in collaboration with the matrix team
  • Negotiate price increases and promotional funding that supports the departments financial objectives
  • To input into the NPD process, taking into account product and price tiers as well as commercial KPI's
  • Integrate with Sales Management, Trade Planning and Marketing in support of the product and promotional strategy
  • Integrate with the Assortment and Space team to drive continuous improvement and efficiency on shelf in support of commercial objectives and product strategy
  • Develop excellent working relationships with suppliers and key stakeholders
  • Review internal and external market data in order to inform and update all aspects of departmental strategy
  • Ensure alignment and cohesion across all stakeholders (cross functional matrix team, management team, suppliers, etc) toward delivery of the category operating plan
  • Review department performance versus scorecard and KPI's on a regular basis and course correct where required in order to meet objectives
  • Manage all financial metrics to deliver the monthly and financial year gross profit commitment.

Minimum requirements:

  • B.Com or other relevant degree
  • 58 years experience as a buyer, specifically within the Confectionery or Snacking field would be advantageous
  • Proven experience leading a cross functional matrix team in the delivery of a category operating plan
  • Proven supplier management experience, including strong negotiation skills
  • Proven commercial excellence with a trading/merchant mindset
  • Strong integration skills at all levels
  • Proactive approach to challenges, with a strong sense of urgency
  • Proven ability to deliver category KPIs (sales, profit, GP growth, market share, ROS, availability, etc)
  • Track record of sound management and leadership ability
  • Understanding of supply chain processes and principles, and proven experience in value chain engineering
