We are looking for a strategic and critical thinker, who will be responsible for oversight of all finance and operations processes including financial management and reporting, human resources management, internal systems and processes.


Purpose of the Role

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director, the Head of Finance and Operations will focus on the following:

  • Lead the annual budget development process, monitor expenditures and variances, and proactively update income and expense projections
  • Keep the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees abreast of matters affecting the financial status of the organisation
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial information (I.e., profit and loss statements, balance sheet, cash flow management and general finance).
  • Implementing continuous improvements to processes, procedures and internal controls.
  • Explain financial health of the organization at Leadership Team meetings and board meetings
  • Analyse costeffectiveness of key interventions and programmes
  • Identify and update financial risk management plan
  • Development of financial and operational policies, systems and procedures
  • Manage annual external audit process and serve as the primary liaison with audit firm
  • Manage the internal audit process and serve as the primary liason with the internal auditor
  • Perform all monthly balance sheet reconciliations (bank accounts, investments, deposits, accruals, depreciation, etc.)
  • Oversee grant and donor receivables and financial reports
  • Processing and management of payments and transfers
  • Oversee tax preparation and filing
  • Develop finance, HR and support services policies, systems and procedures
  • Advise and empower staff on budgeting and healthy expenditure patterns
  • Oversee and optimize all relevant internal processes and workflows
  • Maintain and update the risk register
  • Manage the Finance, HR and Support Services teams

Requirements:

  • Minimum qualifications BCom or relevant degree in Financial Accounting/Financial Management
  • At least 8 years minimum work experience of which 5 years in Senior Management positions
  • Prior experience with all of the following:
  • Setting and tracking budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Ability to process monthly reconciliations (payroll, VAT, PAYE, pension, PAYE, etc.)
  • Implementing continuous improvements to processes, procedures and internal controls
  • Office 365 and related, Power BI, Power Automate Flow, Power Apps etc. (advantageous)
  • Create new accounts in Pastel and create new accounts in the Company's mobile app
  • Sound understanding of HR and procurement processes
  • Driven selfstarter, able to work proactively and independently.
  • Focused, efficient person, able to meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment, with strong time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong planning, decision making and problemsolving skills.
  • A team player, with welldeveloped interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) in English and at least one additional African language
