Medical Aid rate based on principal member only)- To be confirmed- Advert Closing Date- 21/4/2023- Job PurposeTo support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include to: teach according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and develop service learning activities.


To teach Film Technology and Design/Cinematography and Film Criticism in the Diploma in Film Production, manage Film Technology and Design specialisations in the Advanced Diploma in Film Production and co-ordinate student projects.


  • Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    Minimum Requirements:

Lecturer (Permanent):

  • A Master's Degree in Film with a focus on cinematography practices
  • At least two (2) years' relevant teaching experience in Higher Education

Recommendations:

  • Substantive knowledge of and skills in sound recording and film aesthetics, film lighting and camera equipment.
  • Substantive experience of the standards and practices of the film industry with specific focus on cinematography.
  • Specialist knowledge of current film technology and professional nomenclature

Minimum Requirements:
Junior Lecturer (5-year contract)

  • A BTech/Honours Degree or relevant PG Diploma in Film Production

Recommendations:

  • Experiential understanding of the practice of cinematography or camera operating based on engagement in professional productions.
  • Knowledge of and skills in sound design and film aesthetics, videography/first assistant cameraperson/focus puller
  • Experiential understanding of the standards and practices of the film industry and of current film technology and professional nomenclature
  • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Teach cinematography, sound design, film aesthetics and film criticism, to the Advanced Diploma level
  • Participate in curriculum development
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties (including the effective Management of Marks Administration)
  • Substantive contribution to the coordination of student projects and productions in relation to cinematography, sound and aesthetics
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Participate in research
  • Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community interventions into curriculum.
  • Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies on cooperative education, new techniques/technologies, and research projects
  • Management of the Film Programme's film production equipment, and contribution to the upkeeping and upgrading of facilities on an ongoing basis
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment activities
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department
