Assistant Sommelier

Delaire Graff Restaurant is seeking an Assistant Sommelier with experience to recommend wines that pair perfectly with the menu offerings, enhancing guests' dining experience and meeting their preferences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train restaurant staff;
  • Ensure correct presentation and temperature of beverages;
  • Update wine list when needed;
  • Order wines and beverages;
  • Discover new wine selections from suppliers;
  • Prepare wine service area;
  • Maintain stock and equipment;
  • Check equipment and report issues;
  • Monitor temperatures;
  • Ensure cleanliness and good condition of decanters;
  • Minimize losses;
  • Conduct beverage stock-take monthly;
  • Enhance guest satisfaction;
  • Comply with Liquor Act regulations.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12 and certification from Cape Wine Academy or WSET level 1;
  • 1-2 years of wine tutoring preferred;
  • Extensive knowledge of wines - varieties, regions, harvest, and production;
  • Passion for wine and hospitality industry;
  • Product knowledge;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong customer service focus;
  • Maintain professional relationships with departments;
  • Experience with upscale clientele;
  • Well-groomed and enthusiastic;
  • Flexibility and Accountability.
