The Purpose of the role.


The team lead will play a crucial role in providing guidance and support to planners on organisational and technical processes, to ensure efficient outputs.

The team lead will ensure that the team is meeting targets and delivering high-quality work. Responsible for fostering a positive team culture, promoting teamwork and collaboration, and continuously seeking opportunities for improvement.

Role and Responsibilities:

Lead the Team

  • Support planners in performing their duties.
  • Motivate team members and encourage effective teamwork towards common goals and shared expertise and knowledge.
  • Monitor quality and productivity, ensuring that work is completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Provide answers and guidance to Planners, ensuring that they understand the project goals and requirements.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Assist in orientating new employees to become productive.
  • Handle escalations.
  • Facilitate meetings and establish clear channels of communication to ensure that everyone has access to the information they need to complete their work.
  • Ensuring that project targets and KPI's are met, as per the clients' contractual requirements.

Ensure Technical Compliance

  • Effective monitoring of performance systems and dashboards.
  • Effective monitoring of workflows.
  • Together with other stakeholders, support the preparation of performance reports, and report to the Account Manager.
  • Continually develop technical proficiency in telecommunications planning where work requires a deep understanding of technical processes and systems.
  • Make informed decisions that align with project goals and requirements, ensuring that plans adhere to relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ensure a good understanding of policies and procedures, to regularly monitor work against these standards, and providing training to team members to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Promote technical understanding and compliance, to ensure that the team's work is completed to the highest standards and that the project runs smoothly.
  • Interacting directly with customers to support escalations and develop the team's capacity to deal with a variety of requests.

Quality Control

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, external regulations and client architectural infrastructure and requirement and meets the expectations of stakeholders.
  • Effectively management of workload to enquire quality outcomes.
  • Effective quality assurance inputs, correct, and deliver feedback to Planners for development.
  • Cocreating effective methods for measuring quality.
  • Completion of administrative tasks timeously & accurately.
  • Build technical capacity in team, in conjunction with Skills Development Facilitator to improve performance and quality outcomes.

Team Culture

  • Operationally oversee and embed a culture of customer centricity.
  • Participating in setting targets and effectively collaborating with other role players in the team to understand and execute effectively ensure compliance with operational guideline.
  • Drive recognition and motivation activity in the department to maintain staff motivation and retention.
  • Organise engagement activities.
  • Encourage team members to share ideas, recognising, and celebrating successes, and providing opportunities for teambuilding activities.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, where team members feel supported and encouraged to develop their skills and take on new challenges.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Matric
  • FTTH Planning (GPON & P2P)
  • Diploma in Engineering (Advantageous)
  • FOA Fibre design certification (Advantageous)
years planning experience within the fibre or telecommunications industry

  • 1 year leadership experience
