What will you do as a Project Manager (LNG)?


As a Project Manager (LNG) will be the technical face of the project and lead technical activities such as cost estimation, permitting and engineering activities required to deliver the same.

This position will commence from Definition Stage / FEL-3 and will report to a new position LNG Project Director.

What do we expect from you as a Project Manager (LNG)?

  • A 4year degree in Engineering
  • Mechanical, Chemical or equivalent
  • 10+ years project management experience preferably in the development, design, construction, commissioning and maintenance of a terminal, refinery or petrochemical plant
  • Aligned to International and local SA project management accreditations
  • Experience in leading technical and project teams
  • Knowledge on Onshore LNG Terminal Development & Floating LNG Terminal Development
  • Understanding of Environmental impacts of LNG terminals
  • 5+ years Terminal experience preferred
  • Experience in leading significantly sized (USD 100M+) projects
  • Experience in establishing and embedding engineering knowhow and discipline across all disciplines
  • Ability to travel regionally and internationally.

What does your day look like?
Some of the operational elements of the Project Manager (LNG) include:

Engineering Deliverables

  • Prepare Pre-Feed documentation
  • Organize FEED tendering
  • Coordinate FEED process

Permitting Deliverables

  • Manage environmental consultant in ensuring a suitable permitting strategy takes place
  • Coordinate timelines of permitting requirements and engineering deliverables to ensure seamless coordination

Cost Estimation

  • Deliver a +/ 25% Cost estimate for the project at the end of FEL2 / Selection Stage
  • Deliver a binding Cost estimate for the project at the end of FEL3 / Definition Stage

Project Coordination

  • Is responsible for the overall management of the VPM process
  • Manage contracting strategy for project development and construction
  • Manage scope, cost and staff in the Identification, Selection and Definition Stages

Your core responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following**:

  • Develop scope with the Project Developer and Internal Customer
  • Setting up the project baseline consisting of schedule, cost and scope
  • Manage and monitor the project (on the basis of key indicators) to stay within the approved boundaries of scope, cost and schedule, and seek approval for deviations
  • Develop functional requirements / Basis of Design in close coordination with Project Developer and Internal Customer
  • Develop the FEED using an appropriate engineering contractor and the cost estimates with required accuracies in the development stage
  • Ensure the appropriate, timely involvement of functions external to the project team for the success of the project / liaising with Division Departments / advisors on relevant matters like e.g., contracting plan, and Project Management Plan
  • Ensure communication within the Project Team, Internal Customer, Project Developer and Project Owner
  • Trigger when and how to use Repeatable Formula in each project stage (when applicable) in consultation with the divisional RF key users and request waivers when necessary
  • Manage issues, advise on and ensure all issues are managed efficiently including escalation of key issue(s) with high probable impact
