JOB TITLE:
Industrial technician

General Summary:

The position calls for a technician to install, repair, and service all industrial Catering & Laundry equipment distributed by our client.


Product range and brands:

  • Equipment/Machinery includes but is not limited to industrial washing machines, tumble dryers, ironing equipment, and a range of industrial catering equipment
  • Ovens, Fryers, Cookers, Fridges/Freezers, etc.

CORE FUNCTIONS:

  • Install and provide operating training on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
  • Prepare repair quotations relating to industrial laundry and catering equipment.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on industrial laundry and catering equipment.

DETAILS OF FUNCTION:

1) With respect to Installations a technician is required to:

  • Secure the machine to the floor
  • in some cases concrete work is required.
  • Connect the machine electrically to 230 Volt and 400 Volt. (Mostly 400V)
  • Connect the machine to the water supply
  • Basic plumbing required.
  • Connect the machine to the main drain system
  • Basic plumbing required.
  • Connect the machine to air ventilation system or to provide an exhaust solution.
  • Connect the machine to gas or steam supply (rarely).
  • Program and setting of machines according to customers' needs and provide training on the operation and maintenance of the machine.
  • Complete all relevant paperwork i.e. invoice and job sheets.
2) With respect to repairs on equipment the technician is required:

  • To identify electrical/electronic faults through a process of fault finding. The ability to read wiring diagrams is therefore essential and most of the equipment's circuitry is basic. Most of the machines are also fitted with diagnostic micro-processors which give error alarms and assist with the fault-finding process.
  • To replace faulty electrical/electronic components/parts once the problem/s has been identified. Parts such as motors, timers, microprocessors, inlet valves, drain valves, door switches, microswitches, contactors, elements and transformers are examples of parts which fail on industrial laundry and catering equipment.
  • To quote on repairs i.e. labour and parts involved or required to repair equipment/machinery.
  • To identify when bearings need replacement. (Mechanical requirement)
  • To replace bearings when needed. This area requires extensive training. (Mechanical requirement)
  • To repair gas and steam heated equipment. This is not essential but will be an added advantage only about 510% of equipment in the field uses gas and/or steam as a heating source.
3) With respect to servicing of the equipment the technician is required:

  • To give the machine a general clean.
  • To inspection and test components and parts for correct operation.
  • To test all safety devices on the machine.
  • To give a complete report on the condition of the machine and provide a recommendation for corrective action if required.

REPORTING:

  • Daily reporting to the service controller with respect to completed jobs, jobs in progress and repair quotations required.
  • Reports directly to the Branch manager based in Port Elizabeth.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a Qualified Electrician/Fitter/Millwright.
  • Have a minimum of 3 years working experience in a similar environment.
  • Must have a Matric Certificate.
  • Have a minimum of an N4 Technical certificate.
  • Must demonstrated the ability to be a keen learner with a "make it happen attitude".
  • Must be fast learner and must be able to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have valid driver's license.

HOURS OF WORK AND SALARY PACKAGE:

  • Working hours 8h00 to 16h30 Monday to Friday. From time to time, it might be required to work overtime and provide weekend standby.
