Rockwell South Africa is currently seeking the services of a highly competent Engineering Team Lead to join our Randburg office.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing a team responsible for successfully planning, controlling, and managing engineering deliverables to ensure that customer needs are met predominantly in the automotive space.


Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes customer's requirements to determine the optimal control system solution and determines applicable hardware and software control configuration/architecture
  • Performs conceptual hardware systems design, determination of control system strategy to meet customers' requirements while complying with industry codes/standards and assure that personnel/machinery safety practices are implemented
  • Oversee integration of 3rd party hardware and control systems
  • Write technical specifications and project reports as required
  • Visit 3rd party suppliers and/or panel shops to assess progress, provide technical assistance and carry out inspections
  • Carry out internal and customer system testing
  • Provide onsite control system startup as required.
  • May participate in development of business team strategic plan.
  • Performs all aspects of delivery/technical functions for customer projects, including some commercial responsibility.
  • Responsible for assigning resources for execution of projects working with PM to maintain targets.
  • Responsible for process improvement activities within assigned business scope.
  • Responsible for coaching and development of direct reports.
  • Typically manages 5 10 professionals and coordinates activities with support teams and other capabilities.
  • Anticipates the need for change and supports and promotes companywide programs, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Leads efforts of project personnel on complex projects.
  • Coaches and helps develop lessexperienced engineers assigned to projects.
  • May lead internal project process improvement efforts.
  • Responsible for resource planning, assigns engineers to projects
  • Works with direct reports to address training needs.
  • Creates an environment conducive to successful team interaction.
  • Supports an environment conducive to customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for resource scheduling to meet project plan requirements.
  • Negotiates change orders with customers.
  • Serves as the primary interface with customer, sales, and other Rockwell Automation entities for assigned projects.
  • Must have excellent negotiation skills.
  • Supports regional and global business managers in strategic and tactical initiatives.
  • Supports regional and global business manager in presales support of strategic customers globally.
  • Supports regional and global business manager in postsales support of strategic customers globally.
  • Responsible for the plan, budget, structure, schedule and staffing for projects which are of significant and strategic importance to the customer and corporation.
  • Builds partnerships at the business management level of key customers.
  • Responsible for following all applicable corporate, company, governmental and regulatory policies, and procedures as appropriate for this position.
  • Must have excellent negotiation skills.

Minimum Requirements**- BSC Engineering discipline or equivalent knowledge

  • Legal authorization to work in South Africa required
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience
  • Automotive control and/or information experience
  • Further education in engineering, software, or business administration.
  • Extensive experience with direct customer contact.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Available and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet business commitment
