I Major Responsibilities:
1. Works in a collaborative fashion as part of the care team with PCA, Unit Secretary, and RN staff.
- Monitors patients for any acute changes and communicates such changes to primary RN or physician.
- Assists with procedures and patient care activities at the request of the ED physician and in accordance with ED policy.
- Establishes and maintains peripheral IV access.
- Administers medications and fluids within scope of licensure and ED policy.
- Obtains medial history. Checks vital signs. Advises/informs physician of diagnostic indication.
- Transports critical patients to and from areas of the hospital while monitoring for any acute changes.
1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
- Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
- Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
- Certified in CPR - Basic Rescue by either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
- Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support by the American Heart Association.
- Valid driver license.

- Demonstrated ability to work well under often stressful situations.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
1. Minimum three years of experience in an urban EMS service integrated with a municipal first response system.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.III.

Work is considered medium. Position requires work in a patient care/emergency room environment.
