Chief Historical Workshop Craftsman (Based in the Winelands)

Our client, a renowned institution, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate individual to lead as the Chief Historical Workshop Craftsman, preserving traditional crafts and showcasing them to the public.


Requirements:

Extensive experience (8+ years) in historical workshop crafts, particularly in blacksmithing and woodwork.
Formal or informal training in woodwork, blacksmithing, or related crafts.
Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to guide and inspire a team.
Exceptional people skills, both in public-facing and team collaboration contexts.
Creative mindset with a love for history and traditional crafts.
Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards.
Fluent in Afrikaans and English, with excellent communication skills.
Previous experience in a hospitality or tourism context would be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

Lead and mentor the historical workshop team, ensuring the preservation of traditional crafts.
Plan and execute daily demonstrations of blacksmithing and woodwork tasks to the public and school groups.
Prepare the workshop for daily activities, including stocking supplies, maintenance, and liaising with the Activities Manager.
Engage with visitors, explaining the historical context and answering questions about the crafts.
Create custom products during demonstrations for sale in the workshop store.
Uphold the historical integrity of the workshop, ensuring authenticity and accuracy.
Coordinate with the Activities Manager for hosting tours and workshops, enhancing guest experiences.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the workshop area to provide an immersive experience for visitors.
