The incumbent, reporting to the SHEQR Manager, will be responsible for the co-ordinating and managing of the Quality department and incumbents with emphasis on BRC compliance, Quality testing, methods and training and reducing Customer complaints for 2 CTP flexibles sites at Old Mill Road and Bayete street.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Quality teams for CTP flexibles, OMR, and Bayete Street, Delivery and Performance.
Manage resources required for the Quality departments.

  • Foster a continuous improvement and BRCGS culture within the Quality and all other service departments and with service providers.
  • Safety and Housekeeping Focus for the Quality team and extended to all factory and service areas such as Maintenance, Stores Receiving and Despatch.
  • Ensure that all documentation relevant to the BRCGS system are current and managed according to the standard, including SOP'S and all other relevant documentation.
  • Ensure that Quality tests are carried out as per Customer requirements, and that records are kept.
  • Investigate Customer complaints using suitable root cause tools such as Fish Bone, 5Y to ensure effective corrective action is taken and sustained. Agreed turnaround timelines to be met to formulate feedback and remedy of customer complaint
  • Report weekly to Management regarding Open vs Closed External and Internal NCR's for potential financial exposure to the business.
  • HARA team Leader and HACCP Review
  • Assist with Training - documentation reviews, ensure competence of Quality personnel.
  • Ensure Internal audits are conducted in line with the BRCGS standard.
  • Ensure Supplier NCR's are closed out with appropriate corrective action
  • Conduct/ Assist with Supplier Audits, review audit reports
  • Create annual Management Review Presentation, host, and update minutes.
  • Maintain Skills Matrix for the QA teams.
  • Procedures Audits when required based on audit schedule.
  • Host Customer Audits / Visits
  • Supplier Monitoring Program, TACCP & VACCP reviews
  • Manage calibrations for Lab equipment, Calibration Certificates for the sites, monthly verification of results.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluation for direct reportees.
  • Quality statistics and reporting (Defect and complaint rate analysis and reports)
  • Manage the QA department budget and introduce cost saving initiatives.
  • Manage the Cleaning service providers.
  • Manage pest control service provider in line with the BRCGS standard.
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • BRCGS Issue 6 trained and competent
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • A suitable tertiary qualification will be an added advantage.
  • 5 years' experience in Quality Assurance Management functions such as testing of Plastics and use of suitable Laboratory equipment and test methods.
  • Strong knowledge of quality concepts, including food and pharmaceutical packaging & HACCP
  • Experience and knowledge in NCR's, internal and external
  • Internal Auditor trained (BRCGS, Issue 6)
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • The incumbent must be able to work in a fastpaced environment and multitask effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • Valid code 8 driver's license
