The Artisan Millwright supports the Senior Engineering Foreman - Surface Fixed plant.

This person shall possess sound technical knowledge (both theory and practical) to maintaining and assist in the operation of equipment and systems according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications.

This role has a legal appointment in terms of the MHSA Act of 1996

  • Job Description
  • Allocate tasks to subordinate or support personnel and contractors.
  • Attend to defects raised through various detection processes, reports, breakdown sheets and overinspection mechanisms.
  • Conduct defect elimination on mechanical systems in order to eliminate repeats.
  • Provide relevant feedback to the Supervisor and coworkers regarding equipment performance and conditions.
  • Carry out scheduled and nonscheduled repairs and installation work as required to ensure optimum equipment availability and reliability.
  • Discuss work backlog and future work requirements with the Supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify eg rescheduling, prioritising, labour assistance, etc.
  • Ensure that material, spares and equipment are available as required
  • Maintenance checklists, inspections and associated logbooks are up to date and accurate.
  • Conduct efficient housekeeping of equipment and work area in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Report and record relevant operational data as required by department procedures to compile reports.
  • Perform inspections and other duties in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor.
  • Participate in cost saving initiatives and adhere to financial procedures.
  • Participate in riskidentification and management activities.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations.
  • Ensure proper and adequate onthejob training and coaching is provided to subordinates.
**Qualifications

  • Formal qualifications**:
  • Grade 12 / N3 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with mathematics and Science
  • Trade Certificate: Millwright (Fitting & Electrical)

Additional requirements:

  • 3 years' experience as a certified Millwright within the mining or heavy industrial sectors
  • Valid EB/Code 8 Drivers License
  • Computer Literacy
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground (incl. No colour blindness, Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces)
  • The post is dependent on the successful completion of the Company's preemployment protocol such as qualifications' verification, relevant psychometric assessments, and a clear security clearance

Role-specific knowledge:

  • A sound knowledge of hydraulic systems as these pertain to a heavy mechanical plant
  • Sound knowledge in the maintenance, repairs and fault finding of the following equipment: Motor protection systems, Electrical safety and switching devices and practices, Generators, Pumps, LT Substations, Simocode, V.S.D., Power circuits and Power transformers
  • Skills to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical systems and major equipment within area of responsibility
