Plant Production Manager

Duties but not limited to:

  • Plan, organize, direct and control operations in the organization's nursery and green houses.
  • Establish and maintain the correct environmental conditions required for growing specialist plant types.
  • In field seed viability screening, collection, processing and recording per project need.
  • Supervise and manage staff in planting, transplanting, propagating, bagging, and maintaining the nursery.
  • Undertake and coordinate plant search and rescue
  • Formulation and mixing of required planting media, species, and contract specific.
  • Mange and lead project specific search and rescue operation under guidance of Ecologist & Botanist.
  • Identify and control disease, weed and pests.
  • Green house and staging area irrigation calibration, watering schedules and management.
  • Ordering of materials required for growing operations.
  • Communication and ordering of plants for contract growing per project need.
  • Maintain and formulate inventory and stock level sheets, and contract specific quantities.
  • Provide weekly reports on production and forecasting models to management and project managers.

Competencies and Expectations:

  • Strong competence and experience in propagating and growing Western Cape Fynbos as well as the collection and identification of in field ripe seed.
  • Good understanding of Irrigation calibration and plant water requirements.
  • Good understanding of chemical administration and agricultural remedies in dealing with pests and diseases.
  • Solid understanding in growth media technology and mixing of media required per growing requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problemsolving abilities, with strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work and perform under pressure in team environments.
  • Willingness to travel around the Western Cape to various projects and operational bases.
  • Good computer skills, Microsoft suite.
  • Selfdisciplined and energetic.
  • Positive attitude.
