Managing the physical assets under control for plant efficiency with a specific focus on Control and Automation.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure smooth maintenance operation of electrical equipment and installations for minimising unplanned plant downtime.
  • Implement tasks for plant improvement as specified by the Electrical Engineer and Engineering Manager.
  • Maintain discipline and adhere to company procedures and safety standards.
  • Inspect plant sections frequently to assess demands on control and automation.
  • Conduct fault finding and root cause analysis on problem equipment to improve plant efficiency.
  • Identify process improvements through equipment modification/replacement and inform management.
  • Prepare and conduct training on plant control and automation as required.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for equipment/services in the company's interests.
  • Lead project teams for timely project completion.
  • Engage with departments for knowledge transfer on plant operation and maintenance.
  • Manage critical spares, tools, and order materials/parts for maintenance tasks.
  • Provide standby support for electricians during shifts.
  • Generate production analysis reports as required.
  • Conduct training on computer, SCADA, and PLC systems for personnel optimization.
  • Program, design, and modify PLC, SCADA, and Industrial Computer network systems.
  • Ensure instrumentation calibration is up to date.
  • Manage industrial IT equipment as per security rules.
  • Prepare project scopes and business cases as needed.

Management Responsibilities:
  • Strategy implementation.
  • Supervisory/Leadership/Managerial tasks.
  • Ensure Corporate Governance compliance.

Performance Measurements:
  • Ensure safety compliance.
  • Meet Plant Availability targets.
  • Adhere to maintenance schedules.
  • Adhere to Annual Plan for improvement projects.
  • Maintain Plant Energy Performance Index.

Education and Experience:

Qualifications:
  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent NQF6.

Experience and Skills:
  • 5+ years' experience in a 24-hour manufacturing plant.
  • 2+ years' PLC programming experience, preferably on Allen-Bradley platforms.
  • 2+ years' SCADA development experience, preferably on WinCC and Wonderware.
  • Computer literacy, WCM, lean manufacturing, TPM exposure.
  • Root cause analysis, electro-mechanical equipment installation, and project management experience.
  • Effective communication skills on all levels.
