Job Description

  • Ensure the health and safety by adhering to all legislative requirements, procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Lead, control and motivate the people to ensure that all Safety, Health, Environmental and Production targets are achieved
  • Communicate all legal and operational policies, procedures, standards and guidelines relevant to area of responsibility and ensure they are implemented and followed
  • Ensure effective cost control and that costs are allocated effectively and that the various sections stay within budget
  • Maintain section infrastructure to compliment the Operational value chain from coal face to plant
  • Effective People management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed

This role is in the Mining department at Band 6 and reports to the Section Manager.


Qualifications

  • Grade 12 essential
  • Opencast Blasting Certificate essential

Experience & Knowledge

  • 10+ years’ experience on/in an Opencast Coal Mining Environment essential
  • In Possession of Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency (Advantageous)
  • Extensive knowledge of Drill & Blasting
  • Have extensive knowledge of safety systems, standards and high regard to safety regulations and standards
  • Solid knowledge of Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of mine planning principles and processes
  • Knowledge of Thermal Coal core value chain and Operational Codes of Practices and Procedures


Additional Information

  • Computer literacy in MS Office
  • Valid South African Driver’s license essential
  • Must be in possession of a Valid Certificate of Fitness of able to obtain one
  • Conflict management and problem-solving skills
  • Planning and decision-making skills
  • Aware of Best practices and new technologies relating to the mining industry
