The Network Security Engineer (L3) is responsible for providing a service to clients by proactively identifying and resolving technical incidents and problems. Through preemptive service incident and resolution activities, as well as product reviews, operational improvements, operational practices and quality assurance this role will maintain a high level of service to clients. Their primary objective is to ensure zero missed service level agreement (SLA) conditions.

The MS Engineer (L3) is responsible for managing tickets of high complexity, conducts advanced and complicated tasks, and provides resolution to a diverse range of complex problems. This position uses considerable judgement and independent analysis within defined policies and practices. Applies analytical thinking and deep technical expertise in achieving client outcomes, while coaching and mentoring junior team members across functions.

Provides technical support to field engineers, technicians, and product support personnel who are diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing and debugging complex electro/mechanical equipment, computer systems, complex software, or networked and/or wireless systems. Responds to situations where first-line product support has failed to isolate or fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software. Reports design, reliability and maintenance problems or bugs to design engineering/software engineering. May be involved in customer installation and training. Provides support to customer/users where the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature. Survey Tip: In software companies this position generally interacts directly with the customer/user when the product is highly technical or sophisticated in nature, such as with systems level software where the user has a technical background. In a less sophisticated environment, as with many applications products where the user is nontechnical, this position would generally interact with product support personnel and potentially the customer when the customer’s problem cannot be resolved directly by first-level resources.

Under general supervision, assists in analysing, planning, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing large complex systems or networks consisting ofa combination that may will include mainly CiscoISEand Checkpointproducts.

Provides a service to clients to ensure that their IT infrastructure and systems remain operational through proactively identifying, investigating and resolving technical incidents and problems and to restore service to clients by managing incidents to resolution. Their primary objective is to ensure zero missed service level agreement conditions. The Security EngineerL3focuses onsecondline support for incidents.

Essential Duties

With a focus on CiscoISEand Checkpoint technologiestheSecurity Engineer (L3)designs, implements, maintains and operates information system security controls and countermeasures; trains operators in the administration of these systems; documents the operation, use, and expected outputs of these systems. Analyses and recommends security controls and procedures in acquisition, development, and change management lifecycle of information systems, and provides oversight to ensure compliance. Monitors information systems for security incidents and vulnerabilities; develops monitoring and visibility capabilities; reports on incidents, vulnerabilities, and trends to IT orclient. Handlesthe response to information system security incidents, including investigation of, countermeasures to, and recovery from computer-based attacks, unauthorized access, and policy breaches; engages, interacts and coordinates with third-party incident responders, including law enforcement. Administersauthentication and access controls, including provisioning, changes, and deprovisioning of user and system accounts, security/access roles, and access permissions to information assets. Analyses trends, news and changes in threat and compliance environment with respect to organizational risk; advises organization management and executes plans for compliance and mitigation of risk, and engages and coordinates third-party risk and compliance assessments. Produce and use reports The individual demonstrates good administration ability in the form of proposal and report writing, and general project documentation development. The individual may be required to serve periodically on the customer service desk, providing third line telephonic, remote and on-site support and problem management. Monitoring They ensure that assigned infrastructure at the client site is configured, installed, tested and operational. In this regard they will perform necessary checks, apply monitoring tools and respond to alerts. Where software is a component of the solution they will also take responsibility for ensuring that the software is installed and configured according to client requirements. The Security EngineerL3identifies problems and errors prior to or when they occur. He or she will log all such incidents in a timely manner with the required level of detail. They liaise with allstakeholders including vendors, carriers and colleagues to expedite diagnosis of errors, events, incidents and problems and to identify a resolution. Support They investigate third line support calls assigned to them and identify the root cause of incidents and problems. They ensure the efficient and comprehensive resolution of incidents, events, problems and requests. This could involve ensuring that repairs are carried out by coordinating product requests and liaising with other team members. They will also report and escalate issues to 3rd party vendors if necessary. They take full ownership for managing the incident, request, event and/or problem to resolution within the service level conditions. Where necessary, they escalate requests and exceptions to the Security Engineering Team Lead. They provide continuous feedback to clients and affected parties and update all systems and/or portals as prescribed by Dimension Data procedures. Senior Security EngineersL3ensure the preparation of assets and tools for new users (employees) by installing software and hardware to computers and assist with the configuration of devices for users who choose to bring their own devices to work. This is done in line with company policy and IT security measures. Incident, problem, event and request management When required they will take responsibility receiving calls and incidents at the services desk. They assist in analysing, assigning and escalating the support calls. They also provide telephonic support to clients where required. They are required to identify the problem, incident or event, perform root cause analysis on events, problems and incidents and document the actions required, identifying and selecting the appropriate solutions, including the development of a workaround plan. They ensure the implementation of a resolution and recovery, ensuring compliance to the relevant processes and policies. They update incidents, requests, problems and/or events with progress and resolution details.

Behavioural skills

Senior Security EngineersL3are required to strictly comply with all processes and procedures as prescribed by Dimension Data and the client when relevant. Senior Security EngineersL3are also responsible for producing breach and other reports that are necessary for the correct operation of processes. They identify failures and short-comings in the current processes and escalate with recommendations. Their ability to communicate well and to capture all pertinent details when required will contribute to their success. These individuals display the ability to explain procedures or technical details to clients in a clear and concise manner. These individuals are client focused and display a proactive approach to solving problems. They work well under pressure and demonstrate the ability to work within a support team, contributing to their success. TheSecurity EngineerL3is involved in highly complex environments for installation, configuration and fault management. They provide technical support to Dimension Data clients. This includes remotely supporting clients within Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to install and configure software and hardware, resolve incidents, perform root cause analysis and adhere to any related processes such as change management. Certification, both in vendor, technology and product is elevated to a specialized level and activities continue to progress towards an expert level. Security EngineersL3worksclosely with clients, displaying good client engagement skills and engaging at a high level of professionalism. They are required to interact with clients on site to meet more complex requirements of a solution. Problems and issues that cannot be resolved are escalated to the relevant third parties. The individual demonstrates project management and administration ability. They write reports and proposals and project documentation.Security Engineer (L4)ensure the compilation of the documentation of standard operating procedures relating to installations and fixes.
