The Engineering Lead in Cape Town will oversee a team of technical leads, focusing on enhancing technical skills and accelerating project delivery. The Engineering Lead will actively code and build solutions, ensuring the technology, infrastructure, and equipment align with the portfolio’s complex technical landscape.

Your key job responsibilities as the Engineering Lead in Cape Town will include:

  • Lead a diverse team of technical leads across various domains, including software development, business intelligence, and QA, setting standards for innovation through practical action.
  • Provide technical leadership to architects and design large-scale projects and new products, with an emphasis on long-term technology strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Portfolio, Product Delivery Managers, and Product Managers to deliver top-notch technical solutions that meet target states and enhance the customer experience.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive engineering team culture, promoting continuous skill development and ensuring team members feel connected to the product, customers, and overall company success.
  • Communicate expectations, feedback, and context to team members, partners, and stakeholders promptly and effectively.
  • Mentor direct reports in their professional development through personal and performance management.
  • Identify and track key metrics to improve team management, accountability, productivity, decision-making, and business outcomes.
  • Actively participate in the software development team’s delivery process, including building platforms, prototypes, and adopting new technologies.
  • Implement features, technologies, and processes to align with industry best practices, enhancing scalability, efficiency, reliability, and security.
  • Assist with incident resolution and management, conducting regular incident review sessions.


Requirements

Requirements for this Engineering Lead job in Cape Town:

  • A degree, diploma, or similar qualification in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on software development experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in configurable web-based platforms.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience building on cloud platforms.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a senior developer or lead in a technology environment.
  • Experience in vision setting.
  • Strong technical leadership experience.
  • Expert knowledge of plug-in/extendable frameworks and modularization.
  • Experience with content management systems, preferably headless CMS.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale systems.
  • Working knowledge of cloud architecture, service bus, relational and NoSQL datastores, caching datastores, actor patterns, concurrency patterns, productivity tools, 3rd party integrations, and high availability/redundancy patterns.
  • Extensive knowledge of system design and a strong inclination toward Computer Science theory, patterns, and best practices.
