CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To lecture undergraduate and postgraduate students in Economics modules, provide academic support, deal with administrative work, conduct research, supervise postgraduate students as well as initiate and participate in different engagement initiatives both internally as well as external of the university.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
  • Facilitate teaching and learning on undergraduate Economics modules
  • Facilitate teaching and learning on postgraduate (Honours and Masters modules) Economics modules
  • Facilitate teaching and learning on quantitative based Economics modules  (e.g. Economic Analysis, Econometrics and Economic Impact Assessment) and practical sessions for these modules
  • Provide academic support and administration within Department
  • Contribution to internal programme/policy reviews at department/school level
  • Coordinate the relevant functions pertaining to the marketing of the Department
  • Initiate and carry out research independently and as part of a team
  • Supervise research essays and postgraduate projects
  • Work with the other departmental heads and members of the School of Economics, Development and Tourism and Faculty

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

Core competencies:

-        Possess sound knowledge in Economic theory and applications

-        Have experience in teaching quantitative modules such as Econometrics, Economic Impact Assessment, Economic Analysis

-        Demonstrate effective scholarly/informed approach to learning and teaching practice

-        Have experience in supervising postgraduate students

-        Demonstrate effective participation in developing local, partnerships (incl. liaising with industry)

-        Collaboration on T&L and/or research knowledge to promote good practice

-        Display good interpersonal skills, a passion for students and the ability to work well in a team

-        Have expertise to identify students requiring academic support and to provide the necessary assistance   

 REQUIREMENTS 

The candidate:

  • Must be in possession of a Masters in Economics and at least 2 years’ relevant lecturing experience
  • Experience in administration of academic modules and activities
  • Emerging research experience as demonstrated through publication/ presentation
  • Successful supervision of treatise/mini-dissertation or dissertation.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed or made progress towards a Doctoral degree in Economics
