COMPANY DESCRIPTION:

Our client is a well-known bulk food industry supplier based in Cape Town and they are looking for a Senior Logistics Specialist to manage their import and export operations for frozen meat products.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the logistics industry, particularly with refrigerated reefer consignments, and will excel in coordinating complex supply chains, ensuring compliance with international trade regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of product quality.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the end-to-end logistics process for importing and exporting frozen meat products, ensuring timely and efficient delivery
  • Manage the issuance of sales orders and assist with preparing invoicing documents for the Accounts Department
  • Update shipment schedules and communicate them effectively to customers
  • Provide detailed clearing instructions to freight forwarding agents to ensure smooth customs clearance
  • Coordinate with transporters, shipping lines, and freight forwarders to negotiate rates and schedule shipments
  • Maintain the integrity of the cold chain from origin to destination, ensuring product quality and safety
  • Resolve logistical issues, such as delays or compliance challenges, promptly and effectively
  • Analyze logistics data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations and sanitary standards for frozen meat products
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure seamless logistics operations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, addressing their inquiries and resolving issues promptly

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric
  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Logistics or a related field
  • Relevant certifications in Supply Chain Management or Food Safety (Beneficial)

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in logistics, with a focus on the import and export of frozen meat products
  • Proven experience in managing refrigerated reefer consignments
  • Strong understanding of international trade regulations, customs procedures, and food safety standards
  • Proficient in logistics management software and Excel, including advanced functions and data analysis tools
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a team and collaborate with various stakeholders
