The SED (Socio-Economic Development) Manager role is a strategic alliance management function located within the Independent Power Producer Office (IPPO). 

The IPPO was established in 2010 to provide rapid solutions to South Africa’s severe electricity supply constraints, by procuring new energy generation capacity from Independent Power Producers (IPPs).  The IPPO was created as a project office hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) under a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), National Treasury and the DBSA.  The mandate of the IPP Office is to provide specialised services to government, including a) IPP Energy Procurement Management, b) Monitoring, Evaluation and Contract Management, and c) Professional Advisory Services.  The IPPO’s skills, expertise and success in mobilising and delivering on time is recognised domestically and globally.

The role has been necessitated for the purpose of analysing, researching, providing strategic advice and input into the developmental aspects of the IPPP Programme and all work carried out by the IPP Office, with a view to optimise the developmental potential and beneficiation of the IPPP Programme, whilst ensuring its contribution to economic transformation and socio-economic development in South Africa.

Reporting to the Head: Economics, the SED Manager will be responsible for the overall management of oversight on the Socio-Economic Development (SED) and Enterprise Development (EnD) aspects of the procurement programmes.

The SED Manager will further identify, mobilise and manage the appropriate personnel, project resources, ensuring appropriate governance is maintained throughout, and manage all stakeholder relation expectations.
