Financial Accountant

Our client, a well-known fruit packaging company in the Overberg is seeking to employ an experienced Financial Accountant to join their team.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the finance department
• Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements
• Maintains the general ledger
• Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books
• Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks
• Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections
• Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts
• Assessing, capturing of information onto the relevant accounting programmes
• Reporting, feedback, record keeping of reports and administrative support
• Implementation & maintaining of relevant audit programs & verifications
• Aid in the implementation of new accounting policies, standards, and guidelines
• Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
• Analysing data collected in order to determine the state of the company’s financial health
• Analysing data to understand where the company is generating and losing revenue
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform various audits
• Files required tax forms with relevant authorities
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies required

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Computer literate – MS Word, Excel, Pastel & Sage Accounting
• Thorough knowledge of general ledger accounting and account reconciliation
• Experience in the fields of accounting or finance & audit
• Computer – Reports – Admin intensive

Minimum qualifications and Experience

• BCom or equivalent qualification
• Completed SAICA/SAIPA articles will be beneficial
• 5-7 years relevant experience in finance and related services
• Experience in agriculture related industries will be beneficial
