Description of the role 

Investec Sandton is looking for a Data Analyst to support our Risk and Operations Team. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of Data Analytics, with an understanding of IT, and Financial Markets.


Responsibilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data requirements, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
• Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and statistical models to support risk assessment and operational decision-making processes.
• Generate regular reports and dashboards to communicate key findings, insights, and recommendations to stakeholders.
• Conduct ad-hoc data analysis to support risk and operations-related projects, initiatives, and investigations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to enhance data analysis efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with IT teams to ensure data integrity, data quality, and adherence to data governance policies and standards.
• Stay up to date with industry best practices and emerging trends in data analysis and risk management. 
• Build strong relationships with other Data Analysts within the specialist bank to ensure leverage of capabilities.
• Work closely with management to prioritize business and information needs
• Play a key part in the testing of BI requirements.
• Assuring that the promised benefits of BI projects are achieved


Education, Experience & specialist knowledge required (core competencies)
• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics or other relevant qualification
• Knowledge of and experience with data warehouse, reporting packages (SSRS, SSAS, PowerBI etc.), databases (SQL etc.) 
• Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages or other analytical tools for analysing large datasets 
• Knowledge of Power Automate would be advantageous
• Experience with building and deploying analytical models that have added business value 
o Sourcing data, building, and validating models
o Consolidating data across multiple sources 
o Integrating unstructured data and structured data
• Experience as a data analyst within the financial sector, preferably Corporate and/or Investment Banking 
• Strong business understanding and the ability to engage directly with business and stakeholders
• Ability to drive actions through to results
