Job Purpose:

The Food Handler is responsible for preparing and serving food items, ensuring that all food meets the quality standards set by the café. The role also includes maintaining a clean and organized kitchen area, assisting with inventory management, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Food Preparation:

    • Prepare food items according to the café’s recipes and standards.
    • Ensure that all food is prepared in a timely manner and meets quality standards.
    • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including all food prep areas.
  2. Customer Service:

    • Interact with customers in a friendly and professional manner.
    • Handle customer inquiries and special requests regarding food items.
    • Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality food.
  3. Inventory Management:

    • Assist in managing inventory by tracking food supplies and ingredients.
    • Notify management when supplies are running low and assist in ordering as needed.
    • Ensure that all food items are stored properly and safely.
  4. Cleanliness:

    • Follow all health and safety regulations when handling food.
    • Regularly clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
    • Dispose of waste properly and ensure the kitchen meets cleanliness standards.
  5. Teamwork:

    • Work collaboratively with other kitchen and café staff to ensure smooth operation.
    • Assist with training new kitchen staff as needed.
    • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently.
  6. Compliance:

    • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
    • Comply with all food safety and hygiene regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in food preparation or in a similar role preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Basic math skills for measuring ingredients.

Working Conditions:

  • The Food Handler will work in a kitchen environment, which can be hot and noisy.
  • May require early morning, late evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Standing for extended periods.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Experience in a food service environment preferred.
