Business area and team

Xceptor Engineering is responsible for delivering value to Xceptor customers and end users. The teams are hybrid, spread across both the UK and South Africa (Cape Town). The Engineering Enablement team (Platform Engineering) serves as a cross cutting internal service to the product engineering teams. Our mission is to enable our product teams to frequently, rapidly and securely deliver new value into the hands of end users. This includes providing security services and capabilities that shift security left enabling our engineering teams to build and operate software securely. The Senior Security Engineer role will be homed with the Engineering Enablement team.

The role 

The role will be situated and based out of the Xceptor Cape Town (South Africa) office. We are looking for a Security Engineer to set the engineering security strategy and to collaborate as necessary with the product engineering teams to provide them with first class security services and capabilities to ensure the highest levels of security standards and practises are integrated across our Engineering function.

As the Senior Security Engineer, you will be ambitious and passionate about information and software security. You will be responsible for the security posture, services and practises within our software development and operations, including:

Define the security strategy for Xceptor Engineering. Chair the Security Review Group, you are the initial point of contact for Application Security matters and have responsibility for the security considerations applicable to software development and operations. Identify, document and implement information security best practices. Implement and maintain effective security controls across our development and operations value delivery flow. Conduct training and awareness to promote a security-first culture. Develop and report metrics for measuring security orientated performance across Engineering tribes and to the business. Track vulnerabilities in the wider tech ecosystem and drive remediation activities where required. Arrange and manage external penetration/vulnerability testing, audits and all aspects of security compliance within Xceptor Engineering development and operations. Maintain appropriate security controls to ensure compliance standards certification including but not limited to ISO, SOC, NIST, CIS and the GDPR.

Key competencies 

Technical Proficiency: Expertise in cloud, application and information system security principles and practices, including access control, threat, incident and vulnerability management, and the use of various security tools. Problem Solving: Ability to identify security gaps and engineer comprehensive solutions. Communication: Strong skills in documenting security procedures and explaining complex security measures to non-technical stakeholders. Collaboration: Experience working with cross-functional teams to build and maintain secure systems through effective enabling interactions. A proven team player who is willing to share knowledge and train colleagues, who is approachable and willing to assist. Adaptability: Capable of responding to changing security threats and adapting strategies accordingly. Learning: Capable of staying current with the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity.

Required experience

At least 5-7 years of experience in a security engineering role, preferably within a software vendor organisation that provides a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product. Demonstrable experience with cloud security and application vulnerability management is essential. Experience with static application security testing (SAST) and dynamic application security testing (DAST) tooling such as Sonarcloud and Fortify is desired. Experience with cloud (Azure) and Kubernetes security tooling such as Trivy is desired. Experience with GitOps principles and practices for managing operating state of both applications and infrastructure is desired.
