Job Description:


  • Monitoring Compliance: The Environmental Officer will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental regulations, permits, and project specifications for renewable energy projects in South Africa. This will include conducting regular inspections and audits to identify any potential issues and implementing corrective actions as necessary.


  • Risk Assessment: The Environmental Officer will conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential environmental hazards and develop mitigation strategies to minimize negative impacts on the environment. This will involve working closely with project teams to ensure that all environmental risks are properly managed and mitigated.


  • Environmental Reporting: The Environmental Officer will be responsible for preparing and submitting environmental reports to regulatory agencies and project stakeholders. This will include documenting all environmental monitoring data, incidents, and corrective actions taken to ensure full transparency and compliance with all regulatory requirements.


  • Stakeholder Engagement: The Environmental Officer will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, and local communities, to ensure open communication and collaboration on environmental issues related to renewable energy projects in South Africa. This will involve attending meetings, workshops, and public hearings to address any environmental concerns and build positive relationships with all stakeholders.


  • Training and Education: The Environmental Officer will develop and deliver environmental training programs for project teams and contractors to ensure that all personnel are aware of and compliant with environmental regulations, permits, and project specifications. This will involve providing guidance and support to team members on best practices for environmental management and sustainability.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in environmental compliance monitoring and reporting, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations and permitting requirements in South Africa, with specific knowledge of renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience with environmental risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong sense of accountability and integrity.
