Our client, a trailer manufacturer in the Boland region, is looking to employ a service centre manager. The role of the service centre manager includes managing all the functions in providing their customers with an all-round service excellence experience. The manager needs to be able to combine his technical experience with his management expertise.

As the service centre manager your focus will be to manage and develop the division as an independent business unit in the company, yet at the same time follow the strategic focus of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the service centre and ensure it is running smoothly.
  • Effectively manage a team of maintenance technicians to ensure that services are rendered in a timely manner and according to standard procedures and client expectations.
  • Effective management and control of the finances of the service centre, including but not limited to correct costing, quotations, booking out of parts, completed job cards, invoices, etc.
  • Effective planning and scheduling to ensure that planned work is done in a timely manner and that bottlenecks and delays are prevented.
  • Ensure that work is done according to set procedures and standards and in a safe environment according to regulations.
  • Ensure that all repairs, maintenance and upgrades, such as, but not limited to, brakes, wheel bearings, hydraulics, electrical systems, axles etc. are done effectively and according to a high standard.
  • Regular communication with clients to ensure overall client satisfaction.
  • Develop strategies to increase efficiency and reduce costs and develop goals for the service centre and monitor progress towards them.
  • Develop control measures and work standards for performance and projects, including setting targets and deadlines
  • Resolve client complaints in a timely manner.
  • Regular verbal and written progress reports to management.
  • Manage accurate records of all transactions and activities at the service centre.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12
  • Relevant Technical Qualification can count in the candidate’s favour

Experience

  • At least 8 years experience in a trailer, caravan, or automotive workshop environment.
  • Expertise and knowledge of the technical day-to-day running and management of a workshop
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a manager
  • Solid workshop administration experience
  • Good financial expertise to do the full costing and financial quotations in a workshop environment

  • Valid Code EB driver’s licence and own transport
  • Good leadership skills
  • Excellent people skills to manage a team of people, with authority, is required
  • Excellent customer service experience
  • Must be able to plan and organise, i.e. work schedules, needs for equipment, parts, etc.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and independently
