Introduction

Our client in Phoenix industrial Park, Durban is looking for an experienced programmer for their cutting and bending department. This is a fixed-term contract for 2 months. The candidate will receive step 3D and DXF 2D design files directly from the draughtsmen, process them through laser stream software, and create optimized production programs. This role involves precise part sorting high density nesting, and writing advance code for the Salvagnini laser and panel bender machines, as well as supporting the conventional CNC cutting, shearing, and press brakes bending machinery to keep the production manufacturing line running smoothly.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Advanced file processing: import step and DXF files, verify part geometries, unfold 3d models into flat pattens, and accurately apply bend deductions and allowance based on material thickness.
  • Salvagnini panel bender sequence: program the panel bender by generating automated bending sequence, defining automatic tool setup, and configuring advance material manipulation (flip and rotate)
  • Machine toolpath optimization: program the laser by defining optimal cutting path, adjust cutting speed, and selection appropriate nozzle gas pressures for different metal gauge.
  • Conventional bending programming (press brake): generate accurate multi - axes programs for conventional CNC press brakes, including selecting the correct v- dies, punches, gauges, tonnage, limits, and back gauge steps to handle complex manual bends.
  • NESTING & LEAD IN MANAGEMENT: execute highly density nesting layouts within laser stream bend and maximize sheet utilization, Apply correct piercing methods, lead-ins, and micro joints (tabs) to prevent parts from tipping or colliding with machine heads.
  • COLLISION SIMULATION & VERIFICATION; Run full 3d simulation of both laser and bending cycles across all programmable machines to eliminate the risk of machine crushes or tool damage before files go to the floor.
  • TECHNICAL FLOOR SUPPORT: Go to the factory floor to modify code, troubleshoot errors.
  • DATA & REVISION CONTROL: Maintain an organised digital library of all CNC programs, ensuring old revision are archived instantly so operators never tun outdated designs.
  • GENERAL CUTTING OPERATIONN & SORTING: group, sort, and program parts logically for all department cutting assets including laser, plasma cutters, or mechanical shears by thickness to match daily production schedule.

Desired Experience & Qualification

 

  • Experience: 2 to 4 years of dedicated experience programming CNC machines and laser machines, automatic panel bender and conventional press brakes.
  • Machinery knowledge: Direct hands-on experience or certified training on different machines is highly advantageous, alongside solid background knowledge of standard fabrication machinery hydraulics shear, plasma, cutters, and manual press brakes.
  • Software mystery: Proven proficiency using laser stream bend or equivalent top-tie CAM sheet metal nesting and STREAM, RADAN, TRUTOPS, SIGMANEST.
  • File competency: Expert-level knowledge in handling, unfolding, and cleaning step and DXL files
  • Technically background: Deep understanding of sheet metal properties (mild steel, stainless, galv, cromodeck) tonnage calculation, tool radius selection, and tolerance.
  • Attributes: Strong troubleshooting skills, a clear understanding of modern automated manufacturing workflows, and the ability to handle high-volume file queues tight production deadlines.
