Introduction

Digital Marketing Manager | Beadfordview, Johannesburg

Are you the kind of person who gets irrationally excited when conversion rates go up, bounce rates go down and Google Analytics actually makes sense for once? Then we may have just found your kind of people. Our client is looking for a commercially minded Digital Marketing Manager to take ownership of the digital customer experience across multiple websites and platforms. Your mission? Make sure everything works, looks good, loads quickly, is easy to navigate and — perhaps most importantly — turns clicks into actual customers rather than just impressive-looking graphs. You will get stuck into digital campaigns, customer journeys, website optimisation, SEO, analytics, agencies, suppliers, budgets and projects. Basically, if it involves a website and has the potential to become someone else’s “quick little request”, it may eventually land on your desk.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Digital Strategy & Customer Experience

  • Implement digital initiatives aligned with marketing strategy and business priorities.

  • Plan and execute digital campaigns and automated customer journeys.

  • Improve the journey from website visit to enquiry, engagement and conversion.

  • Support the development of customer portals and other digital experience solutions.

  • Keep up with digital trends, technologies and opportunities — because “but we’ve always done it that way” is not exactly a digital strategy.

Website Management & Optimisation

  • Oversee the day-to-day functionality and performance of multiple websites.

  • Manage website content, updates and maintenance through CMS platforms and suppliers.

  • Work with development agencies to improve design, navigation, usability, mobile responsiveness and functionality.

  • Ensure vehicle listings, offers, dealership details and enquiry forms are accurate, current and actually working.

  • Coordinate website enhancements, testing and implementation.

  • Manage live chat functionality and ensure enquiries find their way to the right people.

SEO, Analytics & Performance

  • Manage technical, on-page and content-related SEO.

  • Monitor website performance using Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Semrush and heat-mapping platforms.

  • Analyse traffic, customer behaviour and conversion performance to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Work with BI, IT and lead management teams to maintain reliable tracking and data integration.

  • Develop dashboards and reports that turn numbers into useful insights, rather than another colourful spreadsheet nobody opens.

Agency, Supplier & Project Management

  • Manage digital agencies and suppliers against deliverables, service levels and deadlines.

  • Prioritise development requests and manage agency retainer hours.

  • Coordinate digital projects from briefing and planning through to testing, implementation and review.

  • Work with marketing, dealership, IT and other stakeholders to ensure digital solutions actually solve the problem.

  • Manage multiple projects and digital initiatives — ideally without developing a nervous twitch every time someone says, “Can you just make one small change?”

Budgets, Governance & Compliance

  • Manage website and digital platform budgets and monitor expenditure.

  • Assess supplier performance and ensure the business gets value for money.

  • Ensure digital platforms and campaigns meet privacy, consent, brand and governance requirements.

  • Maintain appropriate approval processes and quality controls for website content and changes.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Key Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Digital Marketing, Marketing, Information Systems or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years’ relevant digital marketing experience, including website management, optimisation and digital projects.

  • Experience managing digital agencies, suppliers, budgets and project delivery.

  • Practical experience with CMS platforms, SEO, web analytics and conversion optimisation.

  • Experience with CRM, lead management or marketing automation platforms.

  • A demonstrated ability to look at a pile of data and somehow come back with a sensible recommendation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Experience within automotive retail or a multi-brand, multi-site retail environment would be advantageous.
