AWS Cloud Architect

Description

We are looking for an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to design, implement, and optimize secure, scalable, and highly available cloud solutions on AWS. The successful candidate will drive cloud transformation initiatives, define architecture standards, and collaborate with development, DevOps, security, and business teams to deliver enterprise-grade cloud platforms.

Location: Johannesburg (3 days per week in office). Duration: 6 months, renewable. Subcontractor budget: R700/hr. All background and security checks must be clear prior to engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities

  • Design and architect scalable, secure, and highly available AWS solutions for enterprise workloads.
  • Lead cloud migration, modernization, and cloud-native application initiatives.
  • Define and enforce cloud architecture standards, governance, and best practices.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation.
  • Design networking solutions including VPC, VPN, load balancers, and Route 53 configurations.
  • Enable DevOps practices through CI/CD pipelines and automation tooling.
  • Ensure cloud security, compliance, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Optimize cloud performance, reliability, and cost management.
  • Mentor engineering teams and provide technical leadership on AWS architecture decisions

Desired Experience & Qualification

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience designing and operating production AWS environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform and/or CloudFormation for IaC.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration using Kubernetes and Docker; familiarity with ECS/EKS.
  • Strong networking and security background, including VPC design, firewalls, and identity management.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automation with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or GitLab CI.
  • Proficiency in scripting with Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of microservices, serverless patterns, monitoring, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Preferred: AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
  • Preferred: Experience in Banking or Financial Services cloud transformation projects and exposure to multi-cloud environments.
