Introduction

To ensure that the IT users (customers) computer equipment, and IT and Automation infrastructure performs at always required levels in the area of responsibility. 
 

Duties & Responsibilities

Desktop & End-user Support
To provide technical support on client specific software and hardware.
To perform required Preventative Maintenance tasks.
To deploy and re-deploy existing equipment
To update, upgrade, support and administer the Anti-Virus Software and other software as directed by
Network & Operations team.
To provide first level support on Dial-up (RAS), VPN and 3G.
To ensure all software onsite is licensed and report any and all abnormalities including but not limited to
unauthorized third-party software.
Ensure backups are running correctly.
To provide first-level Network support.
To attend to the IT infrastructure according to standards 
To assist in network maintenance.
To ensure the neatness and tidiness of all network cabinets and install/replace network cabling as
needed.

 

Network and Infrastructure Support

Provide first-level support for LAN/WAN and plant network infrastructure.

Assist with network maintenance, upgrades, fault-finding and performance monitoring.

Support managed switches, TCP/IP networks, VLANs and associated network services within the defined scope of responsibility.

Maintain the neatness, labelling and integrity of network cabinets and associated infrastructure.

Install, replace and troubleshoot copper and fibre-optic network cabling as required.

Escalate complex network incidents to the appropriate second- or third-level support teams and coordinate resolution.

 

Server and Production Systems Support

Provide first-level infrastructure support for commercial and production systems.

Perform daily and weekly health checks on relevant servers, network devices and associated infrastructure.

Ensure site servers are operational and that required backups are completed and verified.

Assist with preventative maintenance of servers and infrastructure supporting production systems. Assist with testing system functions affected by changes, patches, updates or upgrades before implementation.

Provide first-level support for the telecommunications system (PABX), where applicable.

 

Industrial IT / OT and Automation Network Support

Provide first-level network and infrastructure support for PLC/DCS and other industrial

automation systems, without assuming responsibility for PLC application programming unless specifically authorised.

Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial Ethernet, PROFIBUS/PROFINET and

other plant communication networks, where applicable.

Support the network and server infrastructure associated with PLC, DCS and production systems.

Assist the PLC Software Technician and other automation specialists with network-related

troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

Support plant network redundancy, connectivity and fault diagnosis in accordance with approved

standards.

Ensure that changes to critical IT/OT infrastructure are controlled, documented and implemented in

accordance with company change-management procedures.

 

IT / OT Cybersecurity and Compliance

Comply with company IT and OT cybersecurity policies, standards and procedures.

Assist with endpoint protection, security patching, access control and vulnerability remediation within

the assigned area.

Report suspected cybersecurity incidents, unauthorised access, unauthorised devices and abnormal

network activity.

Support backup and recovery practices for critical infrastructure in accordance with approved

procedures.

Maintain appropriate segregation between business IT and operational technology networks in line with

company standards.

 

Help Desk and Customer Support

Ensure all help desk requests are accurately logged, updated and completed.

Investigate first-level incidents thoroughly before escalation to second- or third-level support.

Maintain help desk records with all actions taken and outstanding until successful completion.

Interact effectively with second- and third-level support providers and Business Process Owners.

Investigate recurring incidents and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions.

Provide professional communication and customer support to users.

Be available for after-hours support in accordance with the site's standby or support arrangements.

 

Cost Control and Quality Management

Manage assigned costs against approved budgets and relevant industry standards or benchmarks.

Comply with policies, procedures and Quality Management System requirements set by the Company.

 

Project Management

Assist with the planning and execution of IT, network and infrastructure projects.

Ensure project activities, changes and handovers are appropriately documented.
 

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications:
National Senior Certificate is essential
NQF Level 6 National Diploma/Advanced certificate Information Technology

Relevant networking, Microsoft or equivalent industry certifications (e.g. CCNA, CompTIA Network+ or similar) will be advantageous.
 

Experience

Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience in IT infrastructure, desktop support and/or network administration is essential.

Experience in a manufacturing, mining, cement or other industrial environment will be advantageous.

Exposure to industrial IT/OT networks, PLC/DCS infrastructure, PROFIBUS/PROFINET or similar industrial communication systems will be advantageous.

 

Technical Competencies

Desktop operating systems and end-user computing support.

TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, network configuration and fault diagnosis.

Managed Ethernet switches, VLANs and basic routing concepts.

Windows Server administration and server hardware.

Active Directory, DNS and DHCP fundamentals.

Network cabling, structured cabling and basic fibre-optic network fundamentals.

VPN and remote-access technologies.

Backup, recovery and basic business-continuity practices.

IT and OT cybersecurity fundamentals, including endpoint protection, patching and access control.

Understanding of industrial Ethernet and PLC/DCS network infrastructure.

Package & Remuneration

R380K - R410K per Annum CTC
