Job Purpose: Our client is seeking a Qualified Installation Electrician with strong experience in Building Management Systems (BMS), HVAC controls and electrical installations. The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, wiring, testing and terminating electrical infrastructure, BMS control panels and HVAC control field devices. The role requires a strong understanding of electrical installations and the ability to work according to SANS 10142-1, Occupational Health and Safety requirements and project specifications. The position will involve working on commercial and industrial projects across South Africa and cross-border.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

 Manage electrical installation contracts and projects, with experience working on contracts such as JBCC, NEC and FIDIC advantageous.

 Manage teams, allocate resources and coordinate project schedules.

 Install and terminate LV and ELV control circuits, BMS controllers, I/O, DDC blocks, sensors, actuators and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).

 Install and maintain electrical containment systems, including galvanised and PVC conduits, cable trays, wire mesh trays, ladder racks and trunking.

 Read and accurately interpret electrical schematics, termination schedules, layout drawings and P&ID diagrams.

 Conduct dead-testing, insulation resistance testing and continuity checks.

 Assist the Registered Person with the issuing of Certificates of Compliance (CoCs) in accordance with SANS 10142-1.

 Diagnose, trace and rectify electrical faults and wiring discrepancies during assembly and site integration.

 Ensure all installations are neat, professional and compliant with project specifications.

 Adhere strictly to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, construction regulations and client-specific safety requirements.

 Support BMS Commissioning Engineers with live loop testing, network check-outs and final project handovers.

 Work with communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, RS485 and Ethernet.

 Monitor project progress and provide regular reports to the Project Manager / Electrical Supervisor.

Skills & Attributes

 Strong BMS and HVAC controls installation experience.

 Excellent control panel wiring, crimping, ferrule application and glanding skills.

 Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics accurately.

 Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, RS485 and Ethernet communication networks.

 Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting abilities.

 Team management and scheduling capabilities.

 Strong project progress management and reporting skills.

 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

 Strong attention to detail with a focus on neat, compliant installations.

 Strict adherence to site safety procedures, HIRA requirements and client safety standards.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Qualifications & Statutory Credentials

 Valid South African Trade Test Certificate – Electrician from an accredited body such as merSETA, CHIETA, EWSETA or the Department of Labour.

Department of Labour (DoL) registration as an Installation Electrician (IE) is compulsory.

 Master Electrician registration will be advantageous.

 Minimum 3–5 years' post-apprenticeship experience in commercial or industrial electrical installations.  Proven experience within HVAC controls, BMS, building automation or electrical automation.  Strong working knowledge of SANS 10142-1.

 Experience with contract and project management on large construction, commercial or renovation projects.

 Proven experience managing teams and project schedules.

 Valid South African Code B (Code 8) driver's licence.

 Own reliable vehicle is compulsory.

 Willingness to travel nationally and cross-border as required.

Package & Remuneration

Package Structure (Per month) 

  • Basic Salary – R 45 000 before deductions
  • Travel Allowance for use of own vehicle – R6000
  • Fuel Allowance – R8000
  • Mandatory deductions
