A well-established organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This opportunity is ideal for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys getting involved in both the day-to-day finance function and the bigger commercial picture.
We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented finance professional who can take ownership of financial reporting, oversee key accounting processes, and partner with operational teams to drive business performance. The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys analysing numbers, solving problems, improving processes, and mentoring junior team members. This is a role for someone who wants to be seen as a trusted finance partner rather than simply a numbers processor.

Duties & Responsibilities


Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and reviewing key accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information across the business. You will take ownership of month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, budgeting support, cash flow forecasting, statutory compliance, and audit preparation. Working closely with management, you will provide meaningful analysis and insights to support operational and strategic decision-making while driving process improvements and strengthening internal controls.
 
 
Skills & Experience:
  • Manage month-end and year-end accounting processes
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
  • Review journals, reconciliations, and accounting transactions
  • Oversee creditors, debtors, and cash flow management
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Monitor balance sheet accounts and ensure timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Maintain fixed asset registers and oversee asset accounting
  • Support internal and external audit requirements
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies
  • Analyse financial performance and provide recommendations to management
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting, controls, and finance processes
  • Mentor and support junior finance team members
  • 4-6 years' experience in an accounting or finance role
  • Strong financial reporting and reconciliation experience
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience with ERP or accounting systems
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities
 
Qualification:
  • BCom Accounting
  • Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles advantageous
