Meat Traders is looking for a dedicated Abattoir Assistant to support the efficient, safe and hygienic processing of livestock and meat products in our abattoir. This role is ideal for a hands-on, reliable individual who is comfortable working in a physically demanding, production-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with slaughtering, dressing and cutting of carcasses in line with company procedures and welfare standards.​
  • Handle, move and hang carcasses and meat products safely to maintain product quality and hygiene.​
  • Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment and tools according to food safety and OHS requirements.​
  • Follow all standard operating procedures, hygiene rules and safety instructions at all times.​
  • Assist with basic packing, weighing and labelling of products as required.


Minimum Requirements
  • At least Grade 12 (Matric), relevant degree or diploma preferred.​
  • Previous experience in an abattoir, butchery or meat-processing environment will be an advantage, but not essential.
  • Physically fit, able to stand for long periods and work with heavy carcasses in cold conditions.​
  • Willing and able to work shifts, overtime and Saturdays as required by production.​
  • Reliable transport to and from work and a strong attendance and timekeeping record.
Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a production team.​
  • High awareness of hygiene, food safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.​
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safe, humane handling of animals and products.
