About Wetility
Wetility is a leading solar fintech company in South Africa, pioneering subscription-based solar solutions that empower homes and businesses to achieve energy independence. Our innovative approach integrates cutting-edge technology with customer-centric financial solutions, driving sustainable growth and making renewable energy accessible to all.
As we continue to expand, we are seeking a Finance Manager to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the financial health of Wetility by driving profitability and operational finance excellence initiatives that support our strategic growth.
Role Overview
The Finance Manager – Operating Company ("OpCo FM") is the senior finance leader responsible for OpCo profitability, financial management, supply chain financial governance, tax and compliance oversight, and Group-level accounting and reporting.
The role combines two critical mandates:
- Divisional Finance Leadership for OpCo
– owning profitability, cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance. - Group Controller Responsibility
– owning Group accounting policies, monthly consolidation, internal controls, and Group Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
Reporting directly to the Group President (with functional alignment to the Group CFO), the OpCo FM plays a pivotal role in ensuring financial discipline, margin optimisation, and accurate reporting across the Wetility Group.
Key Responsibilities
1. OpCo Financial Management & Reporting
- Own all financial management and reporting for the Operating Company, including monthly management accounts, trial balance integrity, and balance sheet control.
- Lead the OpCo month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
- Provide clear performance reporting and insights to the Group President, with a focus on margin drivers, and operational performance.
- Maintain visibility over OpCo working capital and the operational cash cycle.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of Opco Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors on Group reporting matters.
2. Group Accounting, Consolidation & AFS (Group Controller Role)
- Own and maintain Group accounting policies and ensure consistent application across OpCo, FinCo, and all SPVs.
- Prepare and sign off monthly consolidated financial statements for the Group.
- Oversee the accuracy of the Group trial balance, supported by the Group Accountant.
- Review and approve intercompany eliminations, including asset transfers, profit eliminations, and intercompany charges.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of Group Annual Financial Statements (AFS).
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors on Group reporting matters.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS for SMEs across all reporting entities.
3. Financial Controls, Tax & Compliance (OpCo Perspective)
- Own and enforce the Finance Control Framework across OpCo and at Group reporting level.
- Ensure all key reconciliations are completed, reviewed, and signed off monthly.
- Implement and maintain appropriate segregation of duties, approval limits, and payment controls.
- Lead tax and compliance activities for OpCo, including VAT, PAYE, and statutory reporting, with support from external advisors where required.
- Support Group-level compliance requirements from an OpCo standpoint.
4. Revenue, Cost Control & Installation Economics
- Own OpCo profitability and margin performance.
- Ensure integrity of COGS and BOMs, including installer, logistics, and equipment costs.
- Review and validate installation economics and project profitability.
- Drive cost discipline across operations, procurement, and logistics.
- Provide financial input into pricing, supplier selection, and operational scaling decisions.
5. Budgeting, Forecasting & Performance Management (OpCo)
- Lead the OpCo budgeting and forecasting process, including opex, capex, and operational volumes.
- Perform variance analysis and recommend corrective actions where required.
- Provide OpCo assumptions and inputs into the Group consolidated financial model, owned by the FinCo Finance Manager.
- Support scenario planning and forward-looking decision-making.
6. Supply Chain Financial & Commercial Oversight
The OpCo Finance Manager provides overall financial and commercial oversight of the Supply Chain function, which reports directly into this role. This oversight ensures that procurement, inventory, logistics, and supplier contracting decisions are financially disciplined and aligned with OpCo profitability objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial governance over procurement and supplier contracting.
- Oversight of inventory control, valuation, and working capital efficiency.
- Cost and control oversight of logistics, dispatch, and warehousing activities.
- Embedding financial discipline and approval controls within supply chain processes.
- Aligning supply chain execution with financial plans, forecasts, and cash availability.
7. Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and develop the OpCo finance and supply chain teams, setting clear expectations and accountability.
- Partner closely with the FinCo Finance Manager to ensure alignment between operational performance and Group cashflow, funding, and SPV economics.
- Support the Group President and CFO with high-quality financial insight and disciplined execution.
- Promote a culture of financial ownership, control, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- CA(SA), CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Minimum 5–8 years' experience in financial management, operational finance, or commercial finance.
- Experience in project-based, EPC, infrastructure, or asset-heavy environments advantageous.
- Strong technical accounting, reporting, and control background.
