is seeking a full-time
Architectural Draughts person / Technologist with
minimum 3-5 years' post-qualification experience to join our team in Gardens, Cape Town.  This role focuses on the technical execution of projects, spanning SACAP Stages 3 to 6, and requires a detail-oriented professional with strong construction knowledge and site coordination abilities.

WAUW is a Cape Town-based architectural practice founded in 2014 by Eric van den Berg and Erik Janse van Rensburg. Our work spans new builds, renovations, interior architecture, and 3D visualization services. We specialize in residential apartment blocks, retail spaces, and homes, offering comprehensive architectural services from conceptualization to construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Development (Stage 3)

  • Translate conceptual designs into buildable solutions in collaboration with project leads and consultants.

  • Documentation & Procurement (Stage 4)

  • Prepare comprehensive construction documentation packages, including detailed drawings, schedules, and specifications.

  • Construction (Stage 5)

  • Attend site meetings, resolve technical queries, coordinate with contractors, and respond to RFIs.

  • Close-Out (Stage 6)

  • Assist in preparing as-built documentation and managing project close-out procedures.

  • Technical Documentation & Detailing

  • Produce high-quality technical drawings and Revit models, detailing walls, façades, junctions, and bespoke components.

  • Apply a deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and technical standards to all documentation.

  • Project Coordination

  • Collaborate with internal team members and external consultants to ensure coordinated documentation.
  • Support contract administration through accurate and timely updates.
  • Engage with municipal and statutory authorities as needed for compliance and approvals.

  • Conduct site visits for information gathering and dimension verification.

  • Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all work complies with national building regulations (SANS 10400), health and safety standards, and project specifications.
  • Maintain consistent drawing standards, file management, and revision control.

Requirements

  • National Diploma, BTech in Architectural Technology, or equivalent qualification in drafting or architecture.
  • SACAP registration (Professional Senior Architectural Technologist / Senior Architectural Technologist) is essential.
  • 3–5 years (Junior) of experience in architectural practice, with a strong technical portfolio.
  • Proven proficiency in Revit for full documentation delivery (non-negotiable).
  • Sound understanding of local construction methods, materials, and basic building codes.
  • Familiarity with local authority processes and submission requirements.
  • Own transport and a valid driver's license (advantageous)

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working on multi-story residential apartment blocks.
  • Familiarity with coordinating architecture with specialist systems (e.g., façades, membranes, modular components).
  • Ability to lead documentation for medium to large-scale projects.
  • Working knowledge of SketchUp, Photoshop, Enscape, Twinmotion (advantageous).
  • Experience with BIM360 (Building Information Modeling).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawing.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
