Rare Diseases South Africa NPC (RDSA) is a registered non-profit organisation working to improve the quality of life for people living with rare diseases and congenital disorders. Through advocacy, navigation, and communtiy engagement. RDSA drives equitable access to healthcare and support across South Africa.

We are seeking an experienced Fundraising & Grant Consultant to strengthen our financial sustainability and help us grow our local donor base. The consultant will design and implement a strategy to attract small-to-medium donors, with a focus on local businesses, CSI programmes, and individual giving within South Africa's healthcare landscape.

This is a 24-month consulting contract (approx. 15 hours per week), ideal for a professional fundraiser or independent consultant with a proven track record in local donor development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a targeted fundraising and donor engagement plan for small-to-medium donors.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, foundations, and individuals aligned to RDSA's mission.
  • Research and prepare high-quality grant applications and concept notes.
  • Build and maintain a donor pipeline and tracking system.
  • Create compelling donor materials, including proposals, reports, and acknowledgements.
  • Support donor stewardship, ensuring ongoing communication and relationship management.
  • Provide monthly progress updates, tracking income raised and new leads.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in fundraising, donor relations, or grant management ideally in the healthcare or NGO sector.
  • Strong understanding of the South African financial, philanthropic, and CSI environment.
  • Proven ability to secure funds from small and medium donors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with PBO/Section 18A frameworks and donor compliance requirements.
  • Self-motivated, strategic, and able to work independently.
