We are looking for a visionary Data Lead to shape the future of how our business uses data. In this role, you will partner with leaders across the organization to define their data needs and bring them together into a unified group-wide data strategy. At the same time, you will build the foundations that make this strategy possible — creating data management and quality frameworks, and empowering data stewards across the business to ensure our data is trusted, well-governed, and impactful. This is a unique opportunity to influence both the strategic direction and the practical standards of data within our organization, ensuring data becomes one of our most valuable assets

What we're looking for?

  • NQF level 7 (Bachelor's eg: Bcom, BSc or equivalent 3 year degree) Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • High level expertise in, and detailed understanding of a number of different specialist areas within a function - Data strategies, frameworks, methodologies and governance
  • 10 -12 years experience (5 years in a Senior role)

Areas of responsibility:

  • Problems are complex and open ended and affect more than one area of the business. Solutions need to be determined through consultation with other areas of the business.
  • Detailed technical and/or functional instructions or queries
  • Detailed e-mail, fax or mail correspondence
  • Written company policy documents
  • Current legislation affecting the job holder's area of responsibility
  • Factual reports on aspects of the business
  • Detailed written procedures
  • In depth technical reports, proposals or project briefs affecting one or more business units
  • Drafting of factual reports, presentations, procedure or policy documents or training material
  • Drawing up and amending contracts/drafting of legal documents

  • Written proposals or presentations aimed at changing practices within or across business units or selling a product or service to external clients

  • Data Strategy:
    Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with the organisation's business objectives.

  • Data Governance:
    Establish and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, and security.

  • Data Quality:
    Oversee initiatives to improve data quality, accuracy, and completeness, ensuring data is reliable for decision-making.

  • Data Analytics and Business Intelligence:
    Support the use of data analytics and business intelligence to derive actionable insights and drive business value.

  • Data Security and Compliance:
    Ensure data is protected and compliant with relevant regulations and industry standards.

  • Collaboration:
    Work with other executives, department heads, and data professionals to align data strategies with business needs and ensure data is accessible and usable across the organization.

  • Data Management:
    Work with different portfolios within technology to manage the lifecycle of data, from collection to archiving, ensuring data is organized, stored, and accessible in a timely manner.

  • Data Democratization:
    Promote data literacy and a DataOps culture, enabling users to access and utilize data effectively.

  • Data Monetization:
    Explore opportunities to monetize data assets, such as data-driven services or product development.

  • AI
    : Work with relevant team to ensure data constructs are optimised for AI effectiveness
