Our client, a leading operator in the iGaming and Sports Betting industry, is searching for an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join their executive leadership team in Johannesburg. This role is central to driving financial strategy, shaping governance, and supporting the organisations ambitious growth trajectory across South Africa and other emerging markets.

This appointment requires a finance leader who thrives in complex, fast-moving, and highly regulated environments, with the vision to align financial performance with long-term business success.

The Opportunity

The CFO will act as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, taking ownership of the financial direction of the business while ensuring robust governance and compliance in one of the most dynamic and competitive industries. This is not a passive finance roleit is a hands-on, commercially engaged position requiring the ability to balance risk, innovation, and scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Growth

• Design and deliver the financial strategy to support market expansion, new product development, and sustainable growth.

• Provide forward-looking financial insights to guide strategic decision-making and business planning.

• Partner with the CEO and leadership team to evaluate M&A opportunities, joint ventures, and partnerships across Africa and beyond.

Financial Management & Governance

• Oversee all financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and working capital optimisation.

• Ensure full compliance with local tax, audit, and regulatory obligations, including sector-specific gaming and betting requirements.

• Build and maintain a strong internal control environment to safeguard assets and ensure transparency.

• Lead annual audit processes and liaise with external auditors, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders.

Investor & Stakeholder Relations

• Act as the financial face of the organisation to investors, shareholders, banks, and key external partners.

• Produce clear, accurate, and timely financial reports to the Board, regulators, and other stakeholders.

• Contribute to capital raising initiatives, investor relations strategies, and funding arrangements.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and mentor a high-performing finance team, embedding a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.

• Develop scalable systems, processes, and reporting structures that can support a high-growth, multi-jurisdictional business.

• Champion the use of financial technology and data analytics to drive efficiency and strategic insight.

Candidate Profile

• Qualifications: Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) or equivalent professional designation.

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years in senior finance roles, with at least 5 years in an executive or CFO capacity.

• Industry Knowledge: Experience in iGaming, Sports Betting, Payments, FinTech, or another highly regulated sector is essential.

• Expertise: Strong track record in financial planning, risk management, treasury, and cross-border operations.

• Commercial Acumen: Ability to balance governance with entrepreneurial growth in a rapidly evolving market.

• Leadership: Proven experience leading teams, influencing at Board level, and engaging with regulators and investors.

• Global Mindset: Exposure to international markets and multi-currency environments will be highly advantageous.
