Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Will be responsible for the day to day running of the Shaft Section which includes the Shaft, Marshalling Yard, Surface Change Houses, Decline, and Surface area around the Pit

Tasks and Responsibilities:
 Ensure the Shafts is operated in a safe and responsible manner to ensure compliance with the MHSA
 Coordinate shaft examinations and enforce compliance to MHSA MA Regulation 16.73
 Maintain the shaft bottoms
 Responsible for the logistics in and around the shaft area.
 Manage costs and overtime
 Control and lead shaft crews effectively and manage time and attendance
 Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act as well as adherence to the relevant Mine COP's, procedures and standards
 Be prepared to work shifts, do standby and work overtime as required

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
 Grade 12
 Valid Blasting / Hard Rock Breaker Level 3 Ticket for Scheduled Mines
 Onsetter's Ticket
 Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Shaft Foreman on a deep level mine
 In-depth knowledge and experience in Shaft operations
 Shafts man or other relevant shaft courses with accredited service providers
 Computer Literate - MS Office Suite
 Valid driver's license and own transport
 Completion of a Supervisory Development Programme – an advantage

Other Skills/Competencies:
 Good written and verbal communication skills in English
 Shaft Carpenter background
 Independent, proactive thinker with good problem-solving skills and have the ability to do own job planning
 Knowledge of relevant legislation
 Advanced Supervisory, Conflict Resolution, Disciplinary courses will be an advantage
