HOD: Life Orientation

A well-established independent school in Tembisa is seeking to appoint a
Head of Department (HOD) for Life Orientation
in the High School phase. The ideal candidate will be a passionate educator with strong leadership capabilities and a commitment to academic excellence.

Minimum Requirements:

• Relevant professional and educational qualifications
• Fully registered with SACE
• Minimum of 6 years' subject-related teaching experience
• Proven experience in school management or departmental leadership
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, d6, Outlook, and digital communication platforms
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and time management skills
• Ability to lead and support a team effectively

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Curriculum Management

• Oversee and monitor Year and Term Plans for GET and FET phases
• Lead weekly planning sessions and subject meetings
• Ensure curriculum delivery aligns with CAPS and school standards

Assessment & Academic Quality

• Moderate formal and informal assessments
• Monitor learner performance and implement interventions where needed
• Ensure academic targets are met and teaching quality is maintained

Teacher Support & Development

• Provide mentorship, training, and support to subject teachers
• Participate in performance reviews and professional development initiatives

Administration & Reporting

• Maintain accurate records and support the principal administratively
• Ensure effective use of digital tools for planning, communication, and reporting

Leadership & Culture

• Foster a disciplined, inclusive, and motivating learning environment
• Liaise with school management and contribute to strategic planning
• Support extra- and co-curricular activities
