POSITION: SAFETY OFFICER

CLOSING DATE: 26 DECEMBER 2025

An external vacancy exists for a Safety Officer for Security based at Matla Kriel area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Compliance & Monitoring


• Ensure adherence to Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and relevant legislation.


• Conduct regular inspections of security operations within mining sites.


• Maintain updated safety records and incident reports.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Control


• Identify potential hazards in mining and security environments.


• Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.


• Monitor emergency preparedness and response plans.


• Maintain and update contractor packs.

Training & Awareness


• Provide safety induction and ongoing training for security personnel.


• Promote awareness of safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Incident Investigation & Reporting


• Investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.


• Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.

Collaboration & Communication


• Liaise with mine management, security supervisors, and regulatory bodies.


• Communicate safety policies and updates effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education:


• Grade 12 (Matric)


• Safety Management Certificate/Diploma (SAMTRAC, NEBOSH)


• PSIRA Registered (Grade A within 3 months of appointment)

Experience:


• Minimum 3–5 years in mining safety or related field.


• Experience in mining-related security operations is advantageous.

Skills & Competencies:


• Strong knowledge of MHSA and OHS regulations.


• Risk assessment and hazard identification skills.


• Excellent communication and training abilities.


• Ability to work under pressure in high-risk environments.


• Computer literacy (MS Office, safety reporting tools).

KPIs:


• Compliance audit scores.


• Reduction in incidents and near misses.


• Timely report submission and investigation closure.


• Training completion rates.
