Tax Specialist

Position Purpose:
To ensure that the company complies with the tax legislation by accurately completing the monthly VAT returns and submitting them to SARS.
Position Specific Outputs
- Manage the process surrounding year-end tax audit and tax packs
- Prepare tax calculations, tax notes for the annual financial statements
- File ITR14 returns
- Plan for the audit and resolve issues timeously.
- Meet all tax reporting deadlines efficiently and effectively on a monthly basis (this includes monthly tax computations and VAT submissions).
- On a bi-annual basis, ensure that the provisional tax deadlines are efficiently and effectively met.
- Ensure that the provisional tax submissions have been made timeously within the deadline, and that the relevant payments are actioned.
- Ensure that the company details are up-to-date on the SARS records.
- Advise SARS timeously of any changes that need to be effected on the company's SARS profile.
- Ensure that responses to SARS audits are timeously attended to, and that the company is in compliance with the tax administration act.
- Ensure that SARS queries, ADR's, outstanding matters are followed up timeously.
- Ensure that all tax risks are identified and brought to the attention of management.
- Ensure that the company is compliant with all the tax regulations.
- Assist the Group tax specialist in implementing the actions to mitigate the risk and increase the level of assurance in the tax function.

- Implement practical solutions that use the specialist and departmental systems and processes.
- Provide specialist input and recommendations to improve the efficiency, compliance and quality objectives related to the area of specialization.
- Identify problems and develop and propose solutions to present to appropriate leader or stakeholders.
- Ensure day to day operational support required from area of specialisation is provided to enhance performance.
Cost containment
- Support the identification, development and implementation of cost-effective processes to increase efficiency and reduce cost drivers related to area of specialization.
- Continuously review cost / benefit and Return on Investment within area of specialization.
Drive customer-centricity
- Maintain a high level of impact on other departments to support improved delivery.
- Continually increase understanding of client and stakeholder needs, satisfaction and service delivery.
Knowledge management
- Assist business with developing annual budgets and providing business with business unit consolidations.
- Analyse variances in individual cost centres and business units and investigate reasons for movements, amend where required and provide commentary where the variance is still significant.
- Provide guidance and suggestions to business units on action to be taken to improve financial results.
- Prepare accrual reconciliations accurately and within deadlines.
- Process financial journals accurately and timeously.
- Ensure adherence to standard budget operating procedures among business units.
- Process and update required management accounting reports.
- Provide inputs into costing models as required.
- Ensure that adequate knowledge regarding specialisation is shared as required and maintained within the research library.
- Provide advice and / or training as required.
- Maintain, develop and implement specialist knowledge within the day-to-day operations of the organization.
Maintain expertise level
Be a member of related professional bodies.
Ensure CPD (continual professional development) or similar accreditation requirements are met annually to ensure maintained specialist accreditation.
Network key relationships
Engage with and provide support to the established network of internal and external expert resources and partners.
Specialist support to projects
- Produce financial forecasts and provide assistance and guidance where required.
- Provide support for ad-hoc costing as required.
Provide Specialist expertise and ensure best practice related to specialisation is implemented in projects, when required.
Conform to project management disciplines when participating in projects.
Represent department or project on appropriate committees related to area of specialization.

Qualification and Experience
- 4 - 6 years related experience
- BCom and Taxation qualification
