About the Role

Simond Private School invites applications for a skilled and passionate Afrikaans Eerste Addisionele Taal and English First Additional Language Teacher to join our high school team. The ideal candidate will have a deep love for language, culture, and communication, and will be committed to developing learners' fluency, comprehension, and confidence across Grades 8–12.

This role is central to nurturing bilingualism, cultural awareness, and literacy in our learners while upholding the school's Christian ethos and commitment to holistic education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Afrikaans FAL and English FAL to learners in Grades 8–12 (CAPS/IEB aligned).
  • Plan and deliver creative, learner-centred lessons that promote language mastery and appreciation.
  • Design assessments, projects, and tasks that develop both written and oral proficiency.
  • Encourage reading, writing, public speaking, and cultural engagement.
  • Integrate technology to enhance teaching and learner participation.
  • Support and mentor learners in co-curricular activities such as debating, drama, or creative writing.
  • Maintain consistent communication with parents and contribute to the broader school culture.
Minimum Requirements
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Language Education (Afrikaans and English) or equivalent.
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education).
  • SACE registration and valid Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' teaching experience in Afrikaans and/or English FAL.
  • Experience teaching IEB curriculum (advantageous).
  • Clearance from the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO).
Beneficial
  • Experience in language-related cultural activities such as debating, drama, or public speaking.
  • Additional qualification in Language Methodology or Applied Linguistics.
  • Proven success with matric language results.
