POSITION INFO:
A Data Architect designs and manages an organisation's data ecosystem, ensuring seamless data flow to drive decisions and innovation.

You create frameworks for storing, accessing, and utilising data efficiently, focusing on scalability, security, and organisation. From optimising data pipelines to building robust databases, your role is essential for turning raw data into actionable insights.

As a strategist and problem-solver, you collaborate with teams to align technical solutions with business needs. You integrate new technologies, establish governance, and future-proof data infrastructure, ensuring the organisation thrives in a data-driven world.

Duties:

  • Design and implement robust data architectures to support the organisation's business objectives, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data integration frameworks, and storage solutions to facilitate seamless data flow and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into data solutions and strategies.
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards, including data quality, security, and compliance.
  • Monitor and optimise data systems to ensure peak performance and reliability.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to recommend improvements or innovations in data management and architecture.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for data architecture, processes, and systems.

Job Experience & Skills Required:
Qualifications:

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
  • An Honour's degree in Data Management, Analytics, or Business Administration is advantageous.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Professional Data Engineer, or Microsoft Certified Azure Data Engineer are a plus.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related roles.
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale data solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with data governance, metadata management, and data cataloguing tools.
  • Experience leading data-centric projects and mentoring technical teams is preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficient in data modelling, database design, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Expertise in SQL and database technologies (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and their respective data services.
  • Strong understanding of ETL processes, data integration tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend), and Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work with complex datasets.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Strategic thinker with attention to detail and a focus on delivering actionable insights.
