Occupational Hygiene Assistant

The successful candidate will be actively engaged in quantitative assessment workers exposure to health stressors (e.g. airborne pollutants exposure sampling and monitoring, noise, illumination surveys, etc.), and work under the mentorship and supervision of a registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist or Hygienist.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with preparation of sample train and related instrumentation for measurements and survey purposes.
- Assists with general cleaning, calibration and maintenance of OH instrumentation.
- Conducts exposure assessment fieldwork (i.e., workplace surveys, personal exposure measurements and monitoring services) at the client's premises as arranged and in line with work authorization.
- Collects relevant information with respect to practices and conditions under which exposure samples are taken or surveys are conducted.
- Assists AFROHSERV to implement and maintain quality management system in place.
- Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), and related industry regulations.
Minimum Requirements
- A National Diploma or higher in Environmental Health, Public Health, Exposure Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in occupational hygiene practice within the mining sector i.e., extraction, smelting, refining, or mineral processing operations.
- Certified and registered at Assistant level with SAIOH and/or in possession of Chamber of mines practical certificate in mine environmental control (MEC)
Skills and abilities
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Excellent communication and teamwork/interpersonal skills.
- Be physically fit to pass medical assessment; work non-standard hours, work at heights and shiftwork when required.
- Customer service oriented
