The Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) is a registered non-profit organisation based in the Western Cape, South Africa ). The CLT facilitates and promotes the coexistence of leopards and people through research, conservation, and environmental education, to support biodiversity and protect critical ecosystems. We are seeking a dynamic, organised, and mission-driven Director of Operations to join our senior management team, to advance CLT's mission through strategic leadership and to maintain the Trust's operational strength and long-term sustainability.
Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Operations Director will oversee the organisation's day-to-day operations and administrative procedures. The role is responsible for ensuring effective systems across finance, HR, compliance, governance, and donor recruitment and retention. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, strategic thinking, as well as hands-on operational experience to help guide the Cape Leopard Trust's growth and efficiency while upholding its culture, integrity, and values.

Key Responsibilities
Operational Management
•Oversee administrative, financial, and operational systems to ensure compliance and efficiency.
•Work closely with senior management to establish and monitor performance goals.
•Support policy and procedure development to maintain good governance and institutional integrity.
•Coordinate audit preparation and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
•Oversee annual planning meetings, quarterly board meetings, and trustee communications.
•Manage logistics and ensure project equipment is available and monitored.
Financial and Administrative Oversight
•Assist with cash flow monitoring, investment tracking, and financial planning.
•Manage banking processes, account mandates, and payroll systems.
•Ensure HR protocols, contracts, and compliance policies are up to date.
•Supervise organisational assets, insurance policies, and vehicle maintenance schedules.
Governance and Board Support
•Coordinate documentation for the Master's Office and maintain trust governance records.
•Prepare narrative minutes and financial overviews for Board and Trustee meetings.
•Liaise regularly with the CEO and Trustees to ensure transparency and accountability.
Donor and Partner Engagement
•Support board members and project managers in maintaining donor relationships and partnerships.
•Oversee the preparation of donor reports, funding applications, and proposal quality.
•Help plan and host donor site visits, sponsor events, and public outreach engagements.
Communications and Brand Support
•Contribute to content for publicity and fundraising events.
•Represent the CLT at events and conferences as a professional ambassador.
•Communicate with donors and partners.
Leadership
•Foster a collaborative, transparent, and positive organisational culture.
•Support staff development and manage HR processes.
•Ensure efficient internal communication and conflict resolution processes.
Essential Requirements
•Relevant degree or experience in business administration, non-profit management, or related field.
•Minimum of 10 years' experience in operational or senior administrative leadership, preferably in a conservation or non-profit environment.
•Strong knowledge of governance, HR, and financial systems.
•Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•Proficiency in MS Office and cloud-based management systems.
•Valid driver's licence and flexibility to travel occasionally.
•Excellent written and spoken English; Afrikaans proficiency advantageous.
